Shirdi is a religious town dedicated to Sai Baba, a much revered saint believed to be an incarnation of god by some devotees. It is believed that Sai Baba arrived in Shirdi, then a tiny village, and took up residence at the Khandoba Temple. His reported miraculous acts drew devotees from far and wide and soon Shirdi flourished into a town. During a Shirdi tour, you must visit the Khandoba Temple, where Sai Baba initially took refuge, then Guru Sthan, where he preached to his disciples and finally the Samadhi Mandir, which houses his tomb. While Guru Sthan is the ideal place for meditation, Dwarkamai is another revered site that must be on your itinerary during your Shirdi trip. It is here that Sai Baba is believed to have healed the sufferers and the sick. Other revered sites include Sakori, 5 km away and Chavadi and Lendi Gardens within Shirdi town. While all the sites open by 5 am each morning and the mandir remains open till 10:30 pm, it is better to obtain the worship schedule of the Samadhi Mandir before you proceed on your Shirdi holiday.
