steven.partnerOct 04, 2023 Immaculately kept residence in a very good area with excellent transport links into Funchal centre. Very friendly and helpful staff and the rooms are very comfortable, spacious and have great views. The buffet breakfast was plentiful and delicious and the waiting staff were helpful and pleasant and the main pool and pool areas were spacious with plenty of sun beds available. Very enjoyable stay and we would love to return one day in the near future.

We were upgraded to an apartment for our stay and although the accommodation was spacious and comfortable, the room was dark and the balcony was opposite a road which could be noisy at times.
Having said that, I would still recommend this hotel as a great place to stay but in our experience the accommodation upgrade was at the expense of the location of the room.

Alas it’s easier to talk to a brick wall than Expedia about this, not even sure they are real people might as well be BOTs, so next time will book direct with hotel and airlines.

Beautiful, beautiful hotel, lovely gardens and facilities. Room was well equipped with everything we could need including spare towels for pool/spa. Staff very friendly and helpful. We had a room facing the road which was noisy but it was changed with no fuss to quiet inward facing. Fantastic choice and quality of breakfast. Half hour walk into Funchal which we preferred to irregular bus service. Large supermarket close by if needed.

brian.partnerDec 29, 2022 Very comfortable, quiet, and clean with excellent staff. However, a bit remote from the centre of town, particularly now that they have ceased their in-house shuttle service.
My husband and I had a great stay at The Residence. The breakfast buffet was vast and delicious. The property is beautiful to walk around. Although you cannot access the ocean from the property, the views are amazing and you can easily access the water nearby. Lots of beautiful walking areas nearby as well as restaurants. The hotel pools were lovely as were the restaurants and free entertainment. The staff was helpful and the facility was immaculate. Our room had a beautiful room, was clean and comfortable amd had amazing water pressure. We would definitely return.

Our return to Madeira was well worth the wait.
It was excellent. The location, staff friendliness and efficiency was of the higher order. The buffet breakfast and dinner was fantastic the like of which we have not seen before.
Everything was great but in our room was very loud at night.
We prefer to go to sleep not late to wake up before sunrise. It was impossible to sleep before midnight.
I believe there should be a choice of rooms in terms of noise level preferably at arrival.
Otherwise it was great.
This is our third stay at Porto Mare, and its just as good as we remember. Spacious and clean rooms, lovely breakfast buffet, great facilities for adults and kids. Our two year old especially loves the pools and playground.

Stunning interior with magnificent gardens and pool area. Staff all very professional and friendly. Great choice for breakfast and change of theme if you want to eat in the evening. Happy hour a bonus and entertainment in the bar was really good. Great location - a gentle walk (no hills) into town in about 30/40 minutes plus bus stop located just outside the main entrance with regular service.
