Grand Oriental Hotel

Pleasant stay, friendly staff, recommendable for those who expect basic amenities with the touch of a bygone area. The advertised swimming pool was not traced. The accounting staff needs though a training in customer care. I was presented a bill having had paid already in advance. Though I extended my stay from 3 nights to seven nights, the housekeeping staff was not informed about the extension and the reception also called me up to en-suite at what time I would vacate the room. Settling the bills the evening before my check out the next early morning, I had to argue to get the bills for what I was about to pay like restaurant, laundry and not to be satisfied with a receipt of the money to be paid only.`

We stayed in this Grand Oriental Hotel 15 years ago and celebrated our 25th marriage anniversary. We wanted to revisit the same Grand Oriental Hotel after 15 years. It has fantastic old imperial days charm with decor and furniture and facade but very well renovated. The view of port from 4th floor restaurant is simply mind blowing. In short a super place to stay. Only one short coming. Air-conditioning in room needs to be better. That is because the room area is huge, really huge. We took a deluxe room.

In fact this is my third stay in this Hotel. I love it's gothic structure, old fashioned room decoration, and the front desk and it's open space. The ambience of the restaurant is awesome. The view outside is Worth mentioning. The support systems, room cleanliness even small details are well taken care and maintained. I will love to stay again and again and will strongly recommend my friends to experience GOH.

Grand Oriental Hotel is a colonial structure dating to almost 180 years ago. One would be living in spacious quarters originally designed as barracks for british soldiers during world war ii. There is a beautiful panoramic view of the Colombo Port from the restaurant and one can watch the movement of ships and working of the Port while enjoying a leisurely meal. Overall the stay was pleasant.

I arrived late in night. Hotel staff gave me an upgrade of the room. Breakfast is good. Considering that the Grand Oriental Hotel is very old, one should not expect very modern looking Grand Oriental Hotel. This is like a heritage Grand Oriental Hotel with an awesome view of the Colombo sea port.

Hotel staff was very good. When entering in the Grand Oriental Hotel every time security checks luggage. Room service persons are too much helpful. Only one bad thing was there for me that's my room's water heater was not working. Maintenance peoples came, but they cant solve this problem. Near Grand Oriental Hotel, there is no good Indian restaurant or tourist place.

It was a good experience, ngl the staff were friendly and cooperative but there were some issue with the room, the mini fridge didn't work and the bathroom door didn't close. We had complained this in the reception but their was no action taken from their side. Overall its a good stay if u are looking for a Grand Oriental Hotel amin a vintage style and heritage feel.

The harbor view fourth floor restaurant is truly a unique ambiance. We can view ships getting piloted and berth ed. Crane operations and cargo loading can be viewed while dining.
Century old building I love historical building the colonial era building has its own style of aesthetics hence it is not for the modernity lover but fair enough teach facilities.

The Grand Oriental Hotel is a converted British troop barracks of around 180 years old. The accommodation is very spacious and individual air conditioning good. Staff are courteous and helpful. It is well located with Colombo port adjacent and Police headquarters right next door. The restaurant has a fabulous view of the docks. Overall, a pleasant stay.

Service good, staff behavior good, food nice, cleanliness ok. Only thing i noticed adverse is the bad maintenence of bathroom. There was a lickeage in bathroom under wash basin and the water is flooding everywhere in the bathroom. Only this one thing they will have to repair. Otherwise no complaints.

Oriental is in prime location next to Colombo Port authority and police HQ. Build in 1837 still holds the traditional feeling. Great view of the Port from 4th floor restaurant. Good service. Need to take care of toilet facets. Otherwise nice play to stay and value for money you spend.

I stayed there with my friend, very neat and clean Grand Oriental Hotel, nice staff, great location in middle of the city, great architecture of Grand Oriental Hotel from outside as well as inside. Everything nearby at walking distance. Pocket friendly. Awesome experience.

Very happy to stay in Grand Oriential Grand Oriental Hotel. When I mentioned that my dad age 91 was not well, at the reception, immediately the receptionist arranged for a wheel chair in 30 seconds.

Hotel is very good, near by Port, location is very nice, nice view.

In MakeMyTrip app it shows swimming pool but there was none. We had coupon of 10 discount on food and beverage but they did to oblige. Felt bad.
Room size was good but the beds on higher side and plug points are not placed well.

The lunch and breakfast buffet was excellent but the best thing about this Grand Oriental Hotel is how it has preserved its ancient style of architecture which makes for a much better ambiance.

It has been a pleasant experience of staying in GOH for 2 nights. All was well but the Grand Oriental Hotel need to fix one fan in each room, given the AC would take it's happy to cool the entire room at the height of summer. It's essential requirement.

Centrally located, near Harbour, old but well-maintained building. Value for money.
