Beautiful place, affordable as well. Loved having snacks/coffee/breakfast at the little cafe on the patio!
robert.familyDec 02, 2024 This rooms are dated but clean and the overall property has a rustic feel. It’s located next to the beach and the common area is large and cozy. They have the fire pits going every night and sell smore kits incase you didn’t bring your own. We love this place and we will definitely return.
Liked: large territory, you can walk to the beach - good road, free parking, clean room, balcony. Nice area - did not search for a good dining, but I am sure, it is close enough, at least Pebble beach restaurants are 5 min away. Beautiful 17 mile drive is nearby.
Did not like: standard king room - no TV, no coffee machine. It is hard to find your room when it is dark and/or raining. Parking is not in front of the room, you have to walk. Included breakfast - not good at all. Outdated rooms, carpet smells.
amanda.familyNov 03, 2024 The grounds were beautiful, and accommodation was good for using as a base to go out and about during the day. We stayed in one of the older rooms - was clean and in as good condition you would expect for the age/price. Would recommend for group travel accommodation, or a short stay when you’re travelling through the area.
My only real critique is that it’s not great for fully electric vehicles, as there are only 2 charging stations on the property and it’s just first come first serve. We stayed 2 nights and we were never able to get one of the chargers. I suggested to staff that they should implement some kind of sign up system so people could at least plan around it instead of constantly checking every few hours, but they didn’t seem very concerned about it….
linda.partnerNov 01, 2024 As a California State Park, Asilomar is unique and offers the oceanside nature experience along with comfortable accommodations. The main reception building is magnificent and is very comfortable for a small or large group: conversation, playing pool, listening to the piano, sitting in front of the blazing fire. Our room was excellent -- bed very comfortable -- but it was too cold. We couldn't adjust the thermostat.
Not great and not going back
The location and the outside ambience is great - loved the closeness to the beach. However was not happy with the rooms. there are several buildings on the property. WE parked where we wer told, but found it difficult to find the building we were staying in. The room condition is very old, and could definitely use an update. There is also no AC or fan. So when we arrived the room was hot and stuffy. We needed to open windows to get air into the room. there was no tv - but we knew that upfront so that was ok. There is also no phones in the rooms - so to contact the front desk, I had to use a phone in hte hallway.
Rate stay at an old YWCA camp!
Great stay at an old YWCA camp. I only wish that they would have complimentary coffee and that the dining hall would be less expensive.
The beds, bathroom and floors were clean, and water pressure was good; however, the cobwebs and spiders clearly had not been taken care of recently. And the bathtub has mold and just cleaning the surface isn't good enough. This should be cleaned out and re-grouted at the very least. Clearly there is water getting behind the walls to cause this mold and this should be mitigated before it gets worse and causes more structural damages to the structure or gets people sick. Thanks,

A bed and an open window does not rate for the pricd.

Wonderful Historical Beach Hotel
This spot is beyond amazing. Tucked away in the dunes with a woodsy area. The beach is a 5 minute walk from the room. The hotel grounds are large and beautiful. The weather was lovely while staying there as well. The hotel was like you were almost camping. My partner and I came out for a weekender get away to unplug and relax & boy was this the perfect spot to come to for that. The whole way home all we talked about together is how we wanted to come right back and that we cannot wait to plan our next trip. The staff was kind and there are so many amenities (just minus TVs ;p).
I really enjoyed staying here. It has gorgeous views and the employees are very nice and attentive. If you need to get around the grounds, they provide transportation via golf carts that come in very handy.
The inside of the hotel rooms need upgrades desperately. The rooms do not have phones, TVs, or mini refrigerators. The wifi is very slow in the Windward area so you better hope you have good reception in case you need to call the concierge.
We had to change rooms because the first one we were assigned was in rough shape. In both rooms, all the furniture, carpet, appliances, everything looks like it hasnt been updated since the early '90s. The first room had ants and a terrible smell. The second room had a heater that wouldnt turn off, no matter what we did with the thermostat. Water pressure was good though, and there was only a small amount of mildew in the bathrooms. The walls are thin, so we could hear our neighbors and people outside. The plumbing also made a lot of noise.
Outside of the room, the grounds are fantastic. There was a deer outside our window in the morning. The walk to the beach was great. The fire pit was awesome.
renjie.partnerSep 06, 2024 I started to come to Asilomar Conference Grounds about 30 years ago. I’ve come to stay many times for both business and personal purposes. It is really sad to witness this wonderfully located place has been running done literally by the contractor, Aramark! Now the facility is poorly maintained. The room is dirty. The bathroom is not properly cleaned. The grouts are black in the shower tub. The knobs of drawers are missing or loose. The window screens are all broken. The water coming out of the sink faucets is ridiculous low like dripping…I wish the management improve the grounds significantly soon.
Really liked the location and retro appeal - but do keep up with housekeeping - wash windows, fix wallpapers and fix squeaking faucets.

I booked this through Expedia and paid already but after staying there, they charged me another extra $222.4. I spoke to the front desk and they briefly explained that it is a security charge and would be refunded but so far it hasn't been. This place is not ethical and upfront with what they charge. Their room is ok and don't expect excellent conditions. The shower head and tub are rusty and not in great condition, but considering it is like "camping" I didn't have high expectations. Just refund my money back!
