As someone who travels a lot and stays at only 4 and 5 stars, this hotel is absolutely not a 4 star. The bathrooms are very run down and the bedroom is carpeted. Day housekeeping service is quite bad. The other staff is very friendly.
Day 1 -
No lotion or shower gel/soap provided, shower curtain 12 inches too short, bathroom gets soaked with showers, toilet within inches of shower, housekeeping doesn’t take trash out, no new tub floor towel given only part replacement of towels.
Day 2-
No new hand towels given only bath towels, housekeeping again left same trash on floor, minibar water not refilled and we were willing and wanted to pay for minibar water and still couldn’t. Convenience stores nearby closed when we returned home and we really wanted water. Went to front desk who said they didn’t have access to it and they would ask housekeeping if they could find from another room. They then came right away. Night housekeeping always came quickly to bring the items that day housekeeping would forget.
Day 3-
housekeeping knocks loudly everyday at 9 asking to clean. that is far too early and not standard practice.
Day 4- on day of checkout (a Sunday morning in New Orleans), housekeeping knocked loudly on door at 9 am asking us when we were checking out so they could clean. I said not till checkout time at noon. They came another four times knocking in the next three hours and woke us several times.
I did not stay here . This was cancelked by expedia

The staff at front desk were so warm and welcoming. Would def recommend this place and plan on coming back.

Our stay was great, the staff was very helpful and friendly. The beds are very comfortable, I slept like a baby. There is a bar downstairs and the food is really good there, especially the wings. I definitely recommend stay here.
It is a lovely hotel with comfortable beds and linens.
Smart decor.
My complaint would be not having the room serviced.
There is no placard to place on the door to ask to not be disturbed or to be cleaned.
I went out early for the day and came back tired to rest at 4 that is when the maid came to clean and disturb me.
Another note is no one at the main front door. It is a heavy door and when you have luggage and no one there it is not so welcoming.

What happened to this lovely hotel?
The restaurant and cafe are good and staff is amicable. Unfortunately the rooms seem to have gone into disrepair.
I have stayed there several times but this year out room had missing light bulbs, non working lamps, a very wet carpeted floor on arrival, mushroom type orange mold around the bathtub, all broken towel hooks, broken shower faucet and the toilet made huge screeching sounds so I could not use the bathroom while my daughter was sleeping.
julianna.friendsNov 04, 2024 The Pontchartrain definitely has its charms, from a lovely and eclectic lobby to the three excellent restaurant options in the hotel, but our time there also had several pitfalls. At check in, we were given a wifi password, but the wifi was open and public - there was no option to use faster locked wifi anywhere or to use the password. This was unfortunately poor internet security. We were given two waters at check in for the whole stay and some drink tickets we were told were complimentary but were actually included in the amenities fee and we didn't use them. There wasn't any mention of the amenities fee that is on the website at check in or check out, so we assumed it was bundled into the price we paid for our rooms...it was not. It's $25 USD/day for the water (2), the wifi (which was open), cleaning, drinks (2) etc. separate from the room fee, which I really wish we had've known in advance instead of receiving an unexpected charge the day after we left. The ceiling in our bathroom also started leaking on the first night and plaster began raining down on the toilet. When we made mention of this, there was no option to move rooms because the hotel was full and the repairs couldn't be completed until we left, so the only thing we were offered was a patch job to prevent further fallout - no compensation. If I had've known about the amenities fee, I would have requested it at least be waived for the day we had to spend outside of our room for that patch job to be completed.

The hotel is a historic landmark and is old style elegance. Very nice rooms and the staff is fantastic! The dining at Jack Rise is wonderful.
We were racially profiled ! Hotel staff was Rude, rude, rude, they lack basic customer service skills !!! Save your money and go else where !! Hotel is OUT dated. Musty smell, dirty hallway carpet, no vents, room was super HOT and muggy.
The rooftop bar is amazing!

Reserving a room was easy, check-in not so much. Upon reserving the room I notified the hotel we would be arriving after midnight due to our flight. The staff stated that would be no problem. The morning of the trip I again contacted the hotel to confirm we would be arriving after midnight. When we arrived the person at the desk said they had no rooms and had given ours away because they thought we weren't coming. Luckily, they did have two rooms left, but were marked as unavailable due to not being serviced by housekeeping. The desk person checked them and they were clean and ready, but hadn't been updated in the system. The room was pretty, clean, and met our needs for one night. The bed, while small for the two of us, was comfortable.
I appreciate the front desk staff and the manager to find a room and to issue a small refund for the smaller room.
I would recommend The Pontchartrain, especially if you are arriving earlier in the day.
We left this hotel for another after one night. The elevator, hallways and our room smelled dirty and moldy. The chandelier in our room was covered in dust. I’m not sure how it has such high reviews. The staff was accommodating of our request to cancel the remainder of our trip.
