I booked our stay at the Lucky Buddha based purely on the price and location. I didn't look at any of the reviews until after we were checked in, which may have been a mistake but I probably would have booked it anyway. We only needed a room for one night and we came to Vietnam for adventure, so why not? Cons first; -only 2 towels for 4 people (towels play a key role in this hotel, see some of the other reviews for context). -no soap in the bathroom, and shampoo that was so old it was thick and black like tar. -no water or drinks in the fridge (not a big deal, we had our own). -the duvets on the beds were comically small, basically a double bed duvet turned sideways to cover just the bottom half of the bed (again, not a big deal, it's hot here). -TV not working (I think this is known as a "first world problem", I was actually happy not to have the TV but my kids felt otherwise). Now for the pros; -Enormous room for the price. -AC in the room that worked, takes a while to cool down such a large room though. -Huge beds with memory foam mattress toppers over foam mattresses. I found the bed quite comfortable and slept pretty good. -Nice big bathroom with a huge soaker bathtub! This is very hard to find in Vietnam. We didn't use the pool. I saw the water being circulated the following morning so it's obviously being maintained, but I didn't smell any chlorine. We didn't have time anyway, no big loss. The heavy bag and wooden weapons in the lobby were a big question mark too...

Unfortunately this property was not for us, the bathroom flooded each time we had a shower, the beds were rock hard, there was rubbish left in the room from previous occupants, mould on ceiling and walls, left after 1 night and moved to another hotel.

It's an old French colonial building. The furnishings are also old and have that colonial charm. Definitely not for anyone looking for new/modern accommodations. The lobby included a huge golden Buddha statue, a decorated Christmas tree (in the middle of March), a karate dojo in one corner, and an adjacent indoor pool which didn't look clean to us. The refrigerator in our room leaked, and lots of areas seemed dirty and/or in need of maintenance. We only stayed there a short time as we only needed a place to rest between an overnight train and an evening flight. The host and staff were very friendly and helpful, and the cost was low. Overall I am happy with the choice and enjoyed the experience.

This property is one of the best homestays. Across the river from hanoi old quarters . They provide breakfast as well. We took a 1day tour of ha long bay. With vegetarian food. It was well manager. The pick up was managed by them very close to the place of stay. They coordinated well with the staff and we did not face any trouble during the whole tour of 6 hrs excluding the commutation time from hanoi to halong and back. Will surely recommend that if you want to stay in a calm place a little away from the city noises and wilh a view of the river and long bein Bridge then this is the best place we have come across yet.

Jimmy is the best host you could ever ask for if you are new to the city.Super friendly,Super helpful. Helped us book our halong bay and sapa experiance and was all round welcoming. The hotel is slightly away from the Center but quite and grabs are super cheap 35k .It is only 5-10 drive to the Old Quarter and has a spectacular view of Long Bien Bridge and with it being so chaotic this for us was a good location. Rooms are very big and stunning, they have a rooftop which has great views and very chilled to relax at. The breakfast Washington delicious and we enjoyed Netflix on tv. It was a pleasure to have stayed with Jimmy and his family and would reccomend to anyone

This is a nice property, however it is far away from the main Hanoi sights and very hard for taxi drivers/grab drivers to find.

I like the quiet of the hotel and the hotel is clean and staff is helpful. And the breakfast is good as well that provide four options to customers.

Located off the beaten track, great to submerse yourself in less tourism. Very large rooms. Grande bathrooms. Traditional decor.

After travelling and staying in hostels for the past month, my friend and I were looking forward to staying in the suite with our own large beds. When we arrived, we were quite disappointed to find that the room we were shown clearly was not the one we had booked. The woman at the desk tried to convince us that we had been charged the wrong rate on Expedia and that the room we had been shown was the correct one for the price we paid. Since it was not at all what we were looking for, we asked if we could potentially get a refund so that we could book somewhere else that more suited our needs. The manager of the hotel came to speak with us and explained that the suite we had booked was currently occupied as the guests who had booked it earlier were unable to check out on time. This meant that the woman who had tried to check us in had actually lied about the room and had tried to rip us off by convincing us that we had paid the incorrect price for the room we thought we had booked and tried to have us stay in a lower tier room. The manager said that he would provide us with a refund but just needed to contact Expedia first. He was helpful in paying for our cab to another hotel but I have yet to receive a refund despite sending him a follow-up email. I would highly recommend not staying at this hotel.

Worst ”hotel”

The so called hotel did match up to the description. The whole building was in a very poor state. The staff was kind at first but constantly on our case for us to book transportation, tours and in general sell stuff. When we didn’t the owners got more and more unpleasant and in the end, since we didn’t prolong our stay, trying to make us leave before checkout time. C/o was 12, already at 10 they started sending messages that it was time to checkout, then knocking at the door to take our bags down, in the end coming through our door uninvited with cleaning gear while we we’re still in the room and before 11. Then starting accusing us to have taken drinks from the minibar we haden’t touched. Very uncomfortable and insulting. I can not enough stress how I do NOT recommend anyone to stay there.

Rapport qualité / prix très correct. Jimmy et sa famille sont très serviables. Un peu loin du centre du vieux Hanoï mais ça se fait à pied, et c’est beaucoup plus calme.
