We would have liked to have a stool in the room. We liked that it was close to Kyoto Station. There are a lot of food options around the hotel and at the station.

The rooms are very small .... not unexpected though.
Solo Stay

Clean and within distance from nearest train station. There’s 2 family marts and 1 big mart nearby. Convenient for location and the place is clean too.
Fantastic location and living in traditional style

The best thing about Hotel Seiki is its fantastic location. We could easily get around Kyoto due to proximity to all types of transport. There is a nice mall on the short walk to the hotel called Avanti, and we spent great deal of time shopping and dining there. With respect to the room, it was kind of what I expected, although much smaller. I could barely fit into the bathroom. We were unable to wear footwear and pack our suitcases over the tatami mats, which gave a very very limited space for doing that. Not the best choice if you are looking for decent space. Nevertheless, the experience of living in traditional Japanese style was what we will cherish the most.

It was convenient to the sstation.

The property was nice and clean. It is close to kyoto station making it easy to venture out. It does need more power points as the was only 4 spots right next each other 3 of with were being used. while this may not be a big deal for everyone it was for us as we had 2 phones, power banks, laptops and cameras that all need to be changed at night. even if you unplugged some of the other items as they were both close together it made it hard for international travel adaptors to all fit at once.
Warm welcome and very good stay in central Kyoto

Excellent stay, lovely traditional style Japanese room, good size. Comfortable bed, clean and good facilities, has just been renovated so in good condition. Bathroom a bit small but manageable (and not unusual for Japan). Outstanding welcome on arrival and very friendly staff who will answer any queries you may have. Extremely close to Kyoto station (short walk) so very convienient. Would highly recommend and stay again in future

Clean but small hotel . Convenient location too

The location is the absolute best. I was traveling solo, so it was a perfect size for me. Yes, it is tiny. But manageable. Absolutely loved tatami sheets and futons. Washroom is a bit of an issue as it really is very small. Room was very clean. Sheets and towels are changed daily. Also, they give a hand device which you may use during your stay to make free calls, use internet. This was really helpful! Staff ks friendly and speak english well. Overall great. Would consider staying there again.
Great location but nothing else worthy to mention

Stains on sheets, pillows were dirty with visible hair stuck on them. Bathroom was usable, but only provided bath soap. Not recommended for the price.
Disappointing

Cramped shabby room, although staff did their best to be helpful.
Close to station. Kept clean.

Quick and easy to find.

Traveling with my 10yo daughter, I needed a hotel close to Kyoto Station, with AC, and a fridge. This place was compact, as one would expect, clean, with very comfortable tatami floors, and futons that were amazingly comfortable. I enjoyed the addition of a TV, so I could get a glimpse of what typical Japanese shows and commercials looked like. The gentleman at the desk was very helpful, with a photocopy prepped, showing guests the easiest way to the main streets, and when I inquired about a pharmacy to get some mosquito bite creme for my daughter, he not only directed us very clearly to the nearest, he pulled out two products of his own, and applied them to her arms and legs immediately. Very appreciated!

Sleep on mattress feel good in ryokan style with private bathroom. Feel warm and cozy. I think the room is not good in sound-proof, but all guests are good people, so I find peaceful while staying here.
If Location Is Key Element When Choosing Hotel.

This Ryokan is older and does not have all the amenities of many hotels in Kyoto. If location and price are key in your search for hotels then this one will do. It is situated very close to the Kyoto JR Train Station and its price is one of the lower ones with a private bathroom you will find. The rooms where clean but not new nor did they have a lot if any amenities. The staff is not great in English but are helpful and try there best. There is a Family Mart convenience store right across the street which was nice for any necessities.

Very near Kyoto Station, family mart, restaurants
Very old hotel with simple devices.

Cost way more than it worth. The only advantage is closed to JR station.
Plain and simple

The owner was a nice and friendly guy, but the room was a little ordinary. Still not bad if you're just after a place to sleep overnight.
better off in a youth hostel

Room was not ready until 4pm. When I finally arrived back at the hotel I was instructed to leave my shoes at the entrance and don some slippers. I complied. There was barely enough space to bring my small carry-on lugggage into the room. There was a folded up "mattress" in the corner with some unmatched bedding near the water stained window covering. I had to move the small table to accommodate my tiny carry on. The bathroom had a step up and included 1 faucet for the sink and shower and some body wash. The fridge did not work and neither did 2 of the 4 outlets in the room. It was either tv or a working cell phone. "free wifi" does not work. I slept very poorly since I was feeling the floor beneath me. While it is pretty close to the main train station, everything else is quite far away.

Not my best stay in Japan, but close to subway and not far from train station.
