Very small bed even though I booked for a large bed. Me and my partner not big people and we found the bed very small. Mould in shower and the sink was broken. There was no free parking near the hotel. The toilet handle was broken so the toilet ran constantly unless you fixed it yourself.

A really old hotel with traditional charm. Needs a bit of maintenance but it is very welcoming and has great food , a lovely bar and some of the nicest staff I have ever encountered.
Breakfast staff were excellent with four legged friend. Food was very good, our dog looked forward to her sausages in the morning. Toilet in room 319 was making a noise throughout the night. Overall very enjoyable stay, All staff very friendly and genuine.
Fantastic location - great staff
Excellent location - city center on your doorstep. Hotel itself feels dated, needs a revamp but was clean and staff were very friendly. We stayed with 3 teenagers who loved it also. Cannot mention location enough! Walkable to train station also. Great spot.

Very central. I realise this is an historical hotel but it badly needs updating. Damp smell as soon as you walk into hotel. Room not great. Most lumpy uncomfortable bed . Only way I would recommend this is for location and reasonable price.

shirley.familyOct 21, 2024 The hotel has the look of being quite grand once upon a time… sadly it’s a little outdated now however that said it was absolutely fine for our one night stay. The beds were clean and comfortable and the shower room looked like it had been refurbed not too long ago. The view of the back of the hotel and the bins wasn’t the best but.. we slept well enough without any noticeable outside noise.
Breakfast was served between 8-10am and offered a decent selection of fresh fruit, cereals, fruit juices and cooked items. Tea and coffee toast and pastries were also on offer. No complaints about that and all the staff we encountered were pleasant and friendly enough.
Awful booked a double bed and 2 singles we got 2 singles and bunk beds had a 5 and 3 year old window in front off bunk beds not safe hotel couldint give us a different room till next day
It’s a very old building so you’d expect the floors to be uneven and decor a bit faded but it’s pretty shabby. Noise from generator below our window was annoying.
It’s interesting from a historic point of view and it’s in a good location for visiting the city but that’s all really.

Very helpful staff. Pleasant welcome. Clean cosy yet spacious room. Lovely water pressure forhot shower. Delicious Scottish breakfast n croissant.

I was checked in by Colin who is by far the most friendly, helpful hotel staff have experienced for decades. Nothing was too much trouble and he treated my dog with such kindness and interest. He couldn’t have been more welcoming or friendly. My only small grumbles are that the bathroom shelf tilted towards the ground rather easily and that the room hasn’t been spring cleaned for a while. Other than that the staff couldn’t have been kinder and more polite
Lighting in room was a bit dim. Yes it is a really old location, but having a dodgy knee having to use stairs (as well as the lift) wasn't fun.

The rooms we were assigned were in the attic space of the hotel. Very low ceilings. Overall alright
