Mostly good

Only thing a bit frustrating was I grabbed my drinks for breakfast and when I got back from collecting my cooked breakfast they had been cleared away by the wait staff Extra points to the receptionist though for ordering me a taxi
Lovely stay

Lovely stay and the products are Penhaligon's - lovely little surprise.

We arrived just after 10pm to be told there was no longer any food options, despite reception being manned 24 hrs. The rooms we were allocated were in a block being refurbished, so were met by scaffolding and floor protection as soon as we were inside. Room was comfy but felt in need of talc and the bed was very good. Breakfast was superb although the chef wasn’t exactly welcoming.
One night stopover

Very well looked after for a huge older property, a few cobwebs here and there but overall very good. Very characterful place with a strong historic atmosphere. Staff all very freindly and attentive, Sarah on reception a delight . Comfy and spacious bar, didnt eat in the evening but breakfast was very good. Good bed, decent linen, peaceful night. Shower over bath was a bit trickey, but once your balance has adjusted and you wait 4 mins for the hot to come thro' ( my room probably 200 m from the boiler !) there was plenty of hot water A lovely place to stay , i will stop off there again

I stay in a hotel on average once a week so would suggest I’m a frequent traveler. I have never experienced such awful service where I felt intimidated by the staff. The duty manager who dealt with the numerous issues I encountered fairly well the next day but nonetheless it was an horrendous stay.
Tired and scruffy

Have stayed at Latimer House once before and I was very disappointed this time. Room in the Mews was small, heating did not work and generally felt very tired and scruffy... one bedside table no PowerPoint for the hairdryer near a mirror etc. For the price I had expected more. I did not realise that the room was in the Mews and not the main house so very disappointed, this is down to third party website and not hotel- my mistake. Staff on check in were friendly and welcoming. Breakfast was lovely. Sadly I won’t be back.
Good value

Just a 1 night stay over for work, property met all expectations, one moan no hot water for shower when checked in room at night time....and same again at 6am so 2 freezing cold showers which was disappointing. Bar ran out of basic draught drinks and food very average...but staff in bar excellent especially June

The location is beautiful and reception staff very friendly. However the room was an accessible room which wasn’t booked, it smelled strongly of cleaning products upon arrival, was smaller than expected for a superior room and bathe room door wide open wasn’t a great sight. The bathroom because it was an accessible room got very wet and wasn’t a pleasant environment, if you woke in the night it was noisy and no discretion. Breakfast was requested in the room and the eggs and toast was cold on arrival. The room was very busy too, every floor board or trolley being pulled felt as if people were on your room with you! A bad nights sleep. Overall very disappointing.

Lights didn’t work in the room, bathroom or lamps

Such a beautiful hotel with stunning views. Only slight downside was that on the day we stayed it was 31 degrees and the room was rather hot Would happily stay again though :)
Okay

Very poor communication from staff re. food credit and check in/out process, which caused unnecessary hastle. Very hot room with no air con or fan, only ventilation from door which was near to a wedding so very noisy. Bathroom drain blocked, so not ths most hygienic or pleasant.
Adequate/May Disappointment in Independent Guests

If staying as part of a conference/event group, I’m sure it would meet expectations. But staying independently, it disappointed. Arrived with several bags. My room was almost as far from reception as it could be, down a long corridor with flights of steps, then up stairs. No offer of help; not even told where the lift was. Overall sense that the staff felt they were doing me a favour by letting me stay there (a smile costs nothing, guys), the restaurant team seemed disinterested. The room itself was a paid-for upgrade, on which basis I’m glad I didn’t stay in the original one. It did have a window, though - just not a very big one (see photo). Conference attendees don’t have a choice. Independent travellers do - I suspect the operation is not geared to the latter.

Placed in a the conference block at the other side of the complex, no air conditioning and a very small room. I had to open the windows to cool the room but that just made it very noisy
Faded grandeur

I booked for two nights. Never having stayed here before, I was unsure as to the correct room to book, so went for the cheapest option. An earlier review had mentioned that there seemed to be little difference between standard and superior rooms. My room was in an adjacent building about 100yds from the main reception. The common areas were rather unprepossessing and the bar not staffed. The room itself was fine, if not well ventilated. No air conditioning and I had to ask for a fan which was supplied. On the ground floor the room had a door opening on to a small space behind the building. Interestingly the door had no lock, just a very weak chain keeping it ‘secure’. The walk to the restaurant and bar (in the old, original, building) was quite lengthy, so not great if one has limited mobility. This building was really rather lovely, especially the lounge next to the bar. Great views and a very grand appearance. The dinner menu in the restaurant was limited, so I ordered something simple from the bar. All was satisfactory. I walked back to the room through the grounds. These may once have been well tended, but are now somewhat scruffy, which is a shame. Should I return, I will book a room in the old building, which would negate the need to shuffle to and fro from the block I was in. Staff were helpful and friendly.

Lovely little place; great value for the room and facilities. And a short taxi into Chesham or Amersham.
