Houseboat Jewel In The Crown

Kashmir was where I wanted to spend my birthday this year and my wife chose this houseboat in Nigeen Lake – Srinagar, which is very rightly named as “Jewel In The Crown”. The moment we arrived on the other side of Nigeen Lake a smiling Shikarawala was waiting for us, he took our luggage and we started to row towards our houseboat. When we reached our houseboat, Bashir Bhai the Houseboat Manager greeted us with his infectious smile. We could now relate to the word – Kashmiriyat. We checked in and were served with a hot cup of Kahwa, and in a flash all our tiredness was gone. We stayed here for four nights, and during the evenings we used to sit in the lounge area facing the lake; calm waters, friendly shikarawalas rowing their shikaras greeting and smiling at you, birds chirping – we felt we were staying in a poetry lake – where words of love and peace stayed with us during all times. I for one, had never experienced such calmness in my heart. And I couldn’t have asked for a better place than this to celebrate my birthday. In the four days that we stayed in “Jewel In The Crown”, we were treated with a kind of hospitality we had never experienced before; the food was home cooked and was cooked basis whatever we wanted to eat – whether it be Kashmiri Wazwan or Kebabs or a simple Matar Paneer. And by the taste of the food, one could say the food was cooked with so much love and affection. At any given time Bashir Bhai was always there to help you with questions like which places to visit, how much to pay to the Shikarawalas for a ride, the best Kashmiri dishes to try; to which he would say, “Aap jo bologe, hum bana denge. Jaisi apki marzi”, whatever you like to eat, we will cook. Whatever you wish. One of the evenings Asif Bhai, the owner of the houseboat came to meet us, all there was, was affection and warmth in his greeting. Staying in “Jewel In the Crown” was slowly becoming my best stay ever at any tourist location.

A very thoughtfully designed place, with all the amenities, gives you privacy. While being in the beautiful lake of nigeen which I personally feel better than dal lake area. Insulated from the typical urban noises. The person who abides and is the owner of the property is the wonderful host for sure. 24hours room heater, bathtub, hot water, great service in the room. It’s just 3 rooms in the houseboat and one dining room and a beautiful living room. Room service is better than good Houseboat Jewel In The Crowns in the Srinagar area. They arranged shikara ride to gate number one of the lakes free of cost every time we planned to step out even for small chocolate or food till 9 pm. Rooms are beautiful and spacious enough. Good internet speed in the living room, dining, and first room, would highly recommend, thanks safe place for a couple of family travel and i would also recommend for solo travellers

Houseboat is located on bank of nigeen Lake which is 10km away from Dal lake. Location is scenic and peaceful, very few Shikara sellers. Deluxe room is spacious but not much decorated. Basic amenities like TV is not available in the room. Common TV is available in drawing room of houseboat. Staff is polite. Owner of boat is caretaking person. He personally called us and asked about arrival, we had late check in, still he arranged late night Shikara for us. Breakfast is awesome. He arrange on boat sell of Kashmiri items which are in higher side in terms of cost. Overall stay is value for money.

I got a room upgrade upon request. The houseboat was beautiful and kept well. There was some water supply issue at the wash basin but other than that my stay was great. They provided me food which was like home cooked food and it tastes really nice. They also helped me find a driver for drop to city. The owner is very friendly and helpful and if you like you can engage in a good friendly conversation and learn more about kashmir. There is a floating lotus lake nearby and it's beautiful.

This houseboat can be accessed by both land and water, which is really convenient. On the day of arrival, it was raining and there was heavy wind, so we can't reach the houseboat on a shikara. So we were able to reach the houseboat by the car, which is nice. Location is nice, Nigeen lake is cleaner than Dal Lake and saw the sunrise in the calm lake and witnessed the sun peaking behind the mighty Himalayas. I would definitely stay here again.

If you want to stay in a quite place away from hustle and bustle of dal lake, this is a nice option. Reasonably priced. Hygienic. Good food. Quite scenic location. A special plus point is the caretaker, mr. Abid. He wins you over with his charming behavior. He goes out of way to make your stay enjoyable. His presence is a big positive about this place. Great value for money. I will like to visit again whenever i visit srinagar in future.

Our stay in Jewel in the crown houseboat was wonderful. Humble and great hospitality received from owner. Food was delicious like home made. Rooms were clean and beautiful. Dinning space was awesome. We had spent most of the evening time in veranda or living area of houseboat with family and friends. Will definitely recommend to friends and relatives and would live to revisit. We went with low expectations but we're pleasantly surprised at how good this stay turned out to be. The hospitality is amazing. The owner and the caretaker of the houseboat are warm and considerate. The food is tasty, healthy and homemade. Vegetarian as well as non vegetarian. Thank you Asif, Irshad and Bashir for a great stay. Highlight: you can shop while you're on the boat itself.

This is luxury house boat and is highly recommended for families and international travelers. This boats location is calm on Nagin Lake and they provide free Shikara ride to and fro from boat all The time of your stay. Staff is really helpful and offer best service

Excellent maintained and nice property.

Location is very good. Hotel staff is helpful. The only thing is that the food is very simple with very few options. Need to improve food quality.

Everything about the houseboat is exemplary. Nicely decorated house, clean washroom, and every amenities easily available. But the best part is the hospitality of aabid and amir. Aabid is the houseboat manager and always at your disposal. We had a kashmiri dish, which is awesome and mouthwatering.

The staff at this place is really welcoming! asim has taken care of each and every need, very calm and helpful! the place is worth the money.

What a view from the house boat!!! It's really mindblowing. When you wake up in the morning and go to the balcony of the houseboat you can feel the best moment. What a view of mountain, cloud and lake all together. Just amazing.

Most of the houseboat are shabby but this one was very amazing with good room and excellent washroom. The staff aabid was very helpful and responsive.

Spent a night in the houseboat. Very courteous staff who are always prompt in every aspect of the service. The rooms are beautifully decorated and so was the bathroom. You can't even imagine such facilities in the houseboat.

You will find peace there. Houseboat is very clean. Asif bhai the owner of the houseboat helped us from day 1 to last day. Value for money. Bashir bhai the caretaker and the shikara guy both are very good people.

Since it is situated on Nigeen Lake, the overall atmosphere was very calm and peaceful. The lake itself is serene scenic. The shikara ride specially in the wee hours of morning was soothing. The interior of houseboat was contemporary and traditional. Rooms are quite spacious with attached bathroom having modern amenities and hygienic.

Really calm, serene & peaceful. The hb has all the amenities, the food is amazing & abide our host took excellent care of us.
