The staff is courteous and guest friendly. Food that they provide is bland and expensive but you can ask them to make it as palatable as you need. The place is quite distance from the main market and if you wanna eat outside you would have to walk almost for 15 mins or so. They moved us to a new room when we asked them to extend our stay. The new room was worse than our previous room and the owner told us lies to get us to change the room that our better room has a booking for 3 days and no one showed up for 2 days. Even though the owner is good at assisting you when in need, but won't pick up your call made for inquiry before the day of the booking and i find it rude. If you are reaching there by toy train get off at 192nm ( green board) along the track or else you will be walking for almost 25 mins with your luggage. The place must fence their boundaries, grill their windows of rooms and introduce a locking system to varanda grills and doors. The reason i am mentioning this is due to the fact that, when we observed the place we found many ways for breaking and entering the place, it gave us creeps at night thinking that any determined criminal of intentions of harm can easily enter the premises and cause harm. Even though i am mentioning the safety features ideally as matheran is not known for such crimes but prevention will not cause any harm. The walls are pretty thin and doors and windows are not sound proof as in the middle of the night when we were sitting in the varanda we could clearly hear cries. First we got startled due to this unusual noises. Other than that, the place is good and can be recommended to family and friends who are travel-ling light and without expensive items.

Kshitij Cottage is located at 20 mins walking distance from Dasturi car park, the point till which you can go by a car at Matheran. It is 10 mins walking distance away before the market, which may seem a disadvantage to some, as you cannot access the shopping area as and when wished. It is basically a small cottage with 3 rooms adjacent to the house of the owner Mr Rajendra more. It is not exotic, nor lavish; but decent enough for a stay of a day or two. After all you stay at the room only for the night, as most of the time you will be exploring around the scenic location across the hill station. You get breakfast, lunch or dinner with prior intimation. The owner Mr More is a native of Matheran and a real gentleman. The bonus of staying here is the sunrise point just at 5-7 mins away from the cottage. This point is accessible through a newly built road, no name is assigned to this view point yet though. I highly recommend the stay here to those looking for affordable shelter with basic facilities and focused on the travel/trekking.

This is about 20mins walk from the Matheran entry point (Dasturi) and the main Matheran market is about 8-10mins walk from it. Budget-wise it is one of the best for a couple or family. Rooms are excellent, well maintained but non AC. There is no staff per se but Mr. Raju More, his wife and even a granny helps you with everything making you feel very much at home and are extremely friendly and honest. They even provide breakfast/tea/lunch fr nominal extra cost and it was homemade and very good. There is a nice balcony outside the cottage with a round table and chairs to sit and eat. Few cons are monkeys can be a menace especially while eating outside and they provide you with stick or slingshot. Also hot water for Bath is provided by the family by boiling and not directly by heater. Location is not mainstream or commercial but rather like in a village. Overall excellent experience for the cost it offers services at. Completely satisfied.

While khsitij cottage might not be the most luxurious place in matheran, it more than makes up for the experience thanks to the host's hospitality. From the time of arrival, you're made to feel welcome and responses are prompt irrespective of the time of the day. All requests are met with a smile, be it serving dinner a little later than the host's usual time. The food is okay, but then again most local cooking in matheran didn't go down well with me. The rooms are clean, though some might find the pillows need to be stacked. The mattress could be a little softer too. But, the only major downside worth mentioning here is the distance from the market. It is nearly a half an hour walk, which is tiresome in the day and troublesome at night. The distance aside, mr. Rajendra more and his family are extremely gracious hosts and will definitely help you make the stay memorable.

Good for a couple or a family weekend outing. You won't feel like getting out of the room if you reside and spend everyday in crowd it's that peaceful out there. Non-veg made by the owner was awesome, no soda no added flavors, pure charge until food. Downside Kshitij Cottage | Rooms & Caretaker is a bit overpriced, should have been about just more than average. But nevertheless feel worth paying due to the peace that you look for from to get away from everyday busy work not professionally. Instead of risking your stay and go out in a Kshitij Cottage | Rooms & Caretaker would rather prefer the same place next time since this place is ran by a family with all the requirements fulfilled. We had a pleasent stay at the cottage. Highlights for me where- 1. Location- located in a peaceful area with easy reach to the market. There is a beautiful view point just next to the property 2. It is a cozy cottage with three rooms and a common veranda and a beautiful garden area. Good for spending time with large groups and family as you can have the entire cottage for yourself. The entire cottage is astheticaly done and clean and hygenic. 3. Food- simple home-cooked meal which is freshly made. Discussing your menu plans beforehand helps. 4. Courteous caretaker mr & mrs. Rajendra, felt like staying at a family friends home. Overall a very comfortable stay and would highly recommend.

We were family of 3. Stay was good, overall experience was good. Friendly host and home made meal. Food was tasty and service was good too. Wifi was working okay. Room were clean. Property close to all tourist attraction but still very calm and peaceful, small sitting area and play area for kid was available only drawback but it was minor for us that for hot water host provide us with bucket not available in bathroom or tap. We needed for morning shower and they provided us. Overall its worth it ) thank you mr. Rajendra

Kshitij Cottage is located right behind the Ganesh mandir. The hosts are really nice people. Mr. Raju was always just a phone call away. He called me before I reached as well to check if I was facing any difficulty in finding the location. The food here is really nice and simple. One of the best things is Myra point, which is right behind this Cottage. Free Wi-fi is awesome and much required. One aspect which could've been improved is hot water. Of course there's a solar heater but it works for limited time durations.

The place is in middle of Aman lodge and Matheran station. About 1. 5 KM walkable both direction (Aman lodge & Main market). The cottage is surrounded by nature . Best place to stay with family, friends . - Prompt service by the staff, - Rooms were clean, - Homely food is a traditional Maharashtrian style.

Rooms/washroom are good and clean. Food is also very good and hygienic. Location and view is excellent.

Awesome stay and delicious food, specially chicken bhakri and biryani, mouth watering pakoda, masala tea all are great. Mr and Mrs more really committed couple, take care of their guests from bottom of hearts. Whistle birds, fog, monkeys, all are outside the window.
