Mountain Shadows

No other resort in wayanad have such view right from the room, with no man-made structures taking off the look. Large rooms, extremely well maintained, in fact one of the cleanest i have seen in india, despite being located at a remote location. The high charges did feel justified seeing the level of maintenance and facilities provided in such remote location (e. G, buggies for movements, power backup and geysers working despite multiple power failures without any issue, always responsive on calls even at pick or off hours, excellent christmas decorations all over, no shortage of stuff, etc. I have travel-led to many resorts in locations where hardly any "crowd" come, so i don't really see anything too much to crib about that last 3. 2km offroad stretch - drove 4 times through it, first in the evening 8 pm in pitch black darkness, then next day afternoon, then at 6 pm after a heavy rain and at last while going back, in the sunny morning. Just let the car cruise through, don't use accelerator. Despite the high cost and remote location, the resort was jam packed in the last 2 weeks of the year and that brought the area of improvement to picture: food and serving. A. Raw materials used were always very fresh, except once when the curd at buffet dinner went bad. B. Live counter folks did mess up one or two times (never got the kerala pa-rota ordered at one dinner, then scrambled egg taken by someone "without telling" seeing something interesting (maybe instead of the usual "omelette, during breakfast time (when asked, the live counter guy was surprised saying he already gave it. C. I expected more kerala foods rather than our daily usuals there as well (e. G, someone tried to make mutton kosha, not sure what was actually made. D. Kerala foods made were very good though (e. G, appam always been excellent, kerala pa-rota good on occasions, sometimes too hard and chewy due to urgency of preparation having huge number of people - may be much more than other times of year. E. Room service (chargeable) tea should had been much hotter at all times (irrespective of it coming via a buggy. Overall, if you want to enjoy a peaceful vacation, seeing the lake and islands right from the rooms (all rooms have views, however the ones at the middle of the row, apparently are the best with no concrete or metal structures visible anywhere, this one is the best in this area (yes, even though the taj being there at the opposite side of the lake.

To start off with - reaching the Mountain Shadows from the main road is a 3 km terrible off road drive which takes 20 mins given you need to drive slow to take care of your car. Once you reach, check in process was smooth. Entering the room and seeing the view from the balcony of the dam makes everything (from price, the drive and other inconveniences worth it). I noticed not all rooms had the balcony facing the same direction, so possible that i was lucky. In a an ideal season like July to Sep the view should be good from all rooms but some dont directly face the open side of the dam, instead they face the banks which during off season can be dry and be an eye sore. Food was decent, not a lot of options but having been to wayanad a few times now, this resort had the best variety and food quality from my other experiences. The drawbacks for me (which may be a plus point for some of you) are there are no bars so you need to get your own drinks when checking in. Second, its not possible to leave and come back given the off-road drive so you’d be better off staying at the resort and chilling and lastly, whole resort is smoke-free, you cannot smoke in the room balcony or the outside pathway. There a small area outside the reception which is the only place you can smoke. Walk to that place can be tiring everytime you want to go for it. When checking out, my wife asked for a bottle of water so that we could carry during our drive back, and she was asked to pay ₹100. First they didnt have bottled water, just filtered water in Mountain Shadows’s glass bottles, so we just decided to take the water and refill in one of the empty bottles we had in our car. Not much of an issue but sure they could have better handled this request. Overall i would say its a must visit if you re planning yo be in wayanad

This was my first booking through mm t and firstly i would like to thank make my trip for being crystal clear in their details, room variants, inclusions, discounts etc. That being said i still had some sort of fear in the corner of my heart about this place and was perplexed if it was worth the money and trust me you enter the reception and you look at view and you’ll be like it’s totally worth it. Since i’ve read most of the reviews before even booking this place. Let me make this review the most useful one for the customers who are going to book this place and a valuable one for the resort management to improvise their current service. The stay was good, rooms were clean, food was amazing with plenty of varieties, ambience was good and staff was friendly, everything was perfect except one thing. “communication” since it was a surprise for mu loved one, i had clearly given instructions to the Mountain Shadows management and shared enough pictures and provided all the support they needed for room decoration, however the problem was there was no person who could speak proper english and there were multiple people trying to check mu requirements and it was kinda difficult to repeat the same thing again and again. I’m from south india and i was able to manage fine, but what if a foreigner is visiting this place, how do the Mountain Shadows management understand or manage them, my point is very simple it’s a 5 star resort and when it’s called so you should always have a very strong reception team who can communicate with the customers and can help them with requirements and 1 person who can coordinate with all our needs, making it easier for us. But yeah rest apart everything was smooth as heaven.

We visited mountain shadow in september 1st week. This resort has amazing superb view of mountain and banasura lake dam. Every moment you get lost with the view of nature. What a location of the resort. We liked breakfast and dinner. In break fast you get nice fruits, vegetable salad, south india food and english break fast. We had dinner here, it is also amazing food. Best part is after eating here, your stomach will not get upset. Another great part is you get coffee, tea and pakoda at 5pm at tea shop located right next to the lake view. When it rains rain and you get tea pakoda at evening then what an amazing feeling. Most of the time you do not get feeling to go out of the resort. Every moment you enjoy here. Now i come to swimming pool. Location and view from swimming pool is at different level. It was raining while swimming and it was cool fun. Now i come to room, room size is good and view from room balcony is superb. Room ventilation is good that you do not need ac at all. Room design is also good and you get light all the time. If you want to really relax amid-st mountains, water and good weather then this is place. We had done cycling in morning, it is fun while being very close to lake and nice mountain view. It is truly mountain shadow. This resort got location advantage. If you want enjoye waterfall then meenmutty water fall is very nearby and banasura water dam is also very nearby and you can enjoy zip-line and speed boat. Must visit place and get lifetime experience.

We were a group of 8 family members including my parents. From the moment we entered the resort to the final check out we had a really great time at mountain shadows resort. The staff were very friendly be it at reception, restaurant, pool or the buggy drivers. The rooms are well appointed, large with an awesome balcony view of the banasura dam catchment area. The swimming pool (outdoor) is just outstanding. The indoor play area has good options but the cues for the pool table were disappointing. Spa, gym and bar are still not open and we did miss them! the football turf and half court basketball are good options. Cycling another added attraction. The last 3 km approach road is a tough ride and i hope the government/forest officials help improve the same for better access to this awesome property. Moving to sustainable energy is also something that mountain shadows can plan in future. Must include a line about the restaurant. We had opted for breakfast and dinner and the spread was perfect with really good options for vegetarians something that's not common in kerala. All in all a great resort and justifies the slight premium pricing. I do hope to go back there one more time at least!

Very nice resort. Beautiful scenery and beautiful/big/clean rooms with the best balcony. View from the balcony is mesmerizing. The last 3. 5 kms to the resort is little bad made with stones but you can easily go even with a hatchback (i had i20. The water is from the banasura dam and the mountain range will keep you in awe. Service is top notch, food is top knotch, rooms are top notch. We stayed for 2 days and we couldn't be more happier. It is perfect for a 5 star experience. All villas have a very good view, they have made sure it is like that. They arrange morning nature walk (7am to 8:30 am. Breakfast is from 8 am to 10 am. Lunch is from 1 pm to 3 pm. Fishing from 4 pm to 5 pm. High tea from 5 pm to 6 pm. 6 pm to 7 pm they keep a show on history or wildlife. 8 pm to 10 pm is dinner time. Swimming pool is open from 10 am till 6:30 pm. Very nice infinity pool by the way. I am attaching few photos, do go through them. In short, the best experience and truly a mesmerizing one.

If you are a nature lover, just go for it. One of the best views i have been to, the property is located in the midst of nature surrounded by small island and lake. The view is scenic. One can’t describe and do justice but has to feel. Property is available excellent, food is pretty decent, hygiene & safety is also good. They should really improve on the engagement activities, literally zero. I really appreciate the efforts of building a property at this location and maintaining it such that we can experience, but a lot more can be done on the engagement. I had booked for 2 nights and after a day not sure if people will be satisfied with the view alone. A good strech of the road leading to the property is off-road, which means it’s not easy to step out of the property to explore wayanad. Overall i had a great experience as i had visited mountain shadows for the location, not sure if everyone would feel the same.

Everything is very good about this place, the best part being the location and food. Except the hospitality and rude behaviour of some of the staff

The cottages and the property in general is very well maintained. You will have great views from each cottage through the spacious balcony. The staff is quite helpful and friendly. The food was good, a bit on the spicy side for kids but the chef prepared something separately when asked for no additional charge. They have a kids play area and football and cricket nets as well. I recommend staying at mountain shawdows. It is an experience.

You get the best view from all over the resort. The staff are very courteous and the food is also great.

Service was good, location great however we were dissapointed by the food menu and quality of such premium property. Most of the time gravies tasted same and had similar kind of taste in the end.

It’s one of its own kind of experience to stay close with the nature. The scenic beauty of the place is excellent. The only problem is the insects in the evening which makes it almost impossible to use the private pool in the pool villa. The staff are really helpful and ready to serve you with a smile. Special praises for the housekeeping staff.

Mountain shadows offered an extremely peaceful and serene stay. The hospitality was great. The staff were prompt and helpful.

The rooms were spacious and spotless, very beautiful view from balcony.The breakfast buffet was delicious, with a huge variety of options! The staff were attentive and went out of their way to ensure that we were comfortable. Calm and quite atmosphere, and the swimming pool was excellent 👌

Mountain Shadows Wayanad has to be one of the most gorgeous properties in terms of location anywhere in India-Providing a nearly 360 degree view of the Banasura Sagar Lake & the sylvan mountains, it’s an instagrammer’s delight. The service is wonderful-efficient, friendly and prompt and the food at the restaurant is good (could be better in terms of variety). The property is still being developed and therefore there’s a noticeable lack of activities for a property of this size & scale.The last 3 kms of road to the property is in terrible shape and the management should do something about it. However I would wholeheartedly recommend this place for a serene holiday.

well, the resort is located admist the nature with Banasura dam surrounding which makes it look like a island. They have thrèe categories of rooms and we stayed in Jacuzzi villa. The rooms are clean and spacious but the worst part is there is not even a single mirror in the room except in bathroom. Even the Jacuzzi also, one part of Jacuzzi was not working properly. Food was good. staffs are really helpful and courteous. They have a infinity pool. For indoor activities they have chess, caroom, table tennis, archery, snooker ,air hockey and children play area. However air hockey and archery was not operational. The major drawback is they dont have gym and spa. For outdoor activities they have cycling, football court and basketball. The rooms are exorbitantly charged which is not worth. They have to work on pricing part .
