The experience with Moonstar Desert Camp and Resort was terrible. We were four adults and two kids. The package includes 2 meals – Breakfast & Lunch/Dinner. One week before to the scheduled stay, I shared my booking to Mr. Husain who in turned called me. He explained that my booking doesn’t includes any cultural programme or camel safari. There were additional charges @Rs. 1750 per head for attending cultural programme, DJ, evening snacks and tea and Gala dinner. He tried to create a panic situation saying that if additional money is not paid, we will not be allowed to attend this programme and will served only roti, sabji, rice and dal in the dinner. He further said that if amount is not paid at now, then on the day of check-in, amount of Rs. 3500 per head will be charged. Having no option, I paid Rs. 7000/- additional. we were very excited and expecting to have a very nice quality of service. Our disappointment started when we entered in the Swiss Tents –
1. The pillow covers were very dirty. We asked one of the helper (Mr. Mukesh) to change the pillow cover. While he was changing the covers, the condition of pillows was shabby, even railway pillows are better. There were completely black and dirty.
2. The blanket given was also not cleaned and having sand dust over it. It appeared that they haven’t even changed the bedsheet. The blanket was very thin and was not sufficient to manage 7-8 degree night temperature. I had to ask for additional blanket. They provided one single bed Rajai which was not enough for double bed. Even that Rajai was not cleaned. We only put that on our feet side.
3. They provided only one towel and that too a small size. I can’t understand how two adults and one kid manage with single towel.
4. Only one water bottle was provided. Extra bottles need to be purchased from their canteen @Rs. 30 per bottle.
5. The toilet tiles were shabby and old. There was no geyser in the bathroom. It was told that hot water will be available between 6AM to 10 AM. In the early morning , the water was being heated by burning wooden logs under a boiler and water was being sent to different bathrooms through pipeline. By the time, the water reaches to tap, it is still cold and not at all hot. With lots of pain, I and my wife have to take bath in cold water. Since water was still cold, we could not give bath to our five year old son.
6. Even basic facilities like heath faucet were not available in the toilet, I have to go to Mr. Mukesh to ask for an extra water mug for toilet purpose.
7. The snacks served in the evening were not fully cooked and quality of oil was not upto the mark. They served besan gatta, dal rice, paneer, tawa roti and churma on the name of gala dinner. The quality of ingredients was so poor that it caused indigestion to us.
8. In the evening during the time of rajasthani dance, many men were sitting at the back having liquor before other guest family members. There was a brawl and fight between drunken guests and boys of the moonstar desert camp. The boys were beating the guests. We were so feed up and frustrated with the service that we left the camp early morning without having breakfast. these people are completely money minded and literally looting the monwy of guest. I strongly recommend not to book this camp.
