Excellent stay in the heart of nature
Rated 5.0 by Vishal Aggarwal . Couple Traveller . Dec 30, 2019
I visited this place with my wife in late December 2019 for 4 days and I'd go there again. It's 15 acres of mind-blowing natural, jungle, non luxurious living and to enhance your experience, the staff rotates your room everyday- mudhouse, rockhouse, treehouse, laterite brick house. Mutthu and Ranjith are the kind of people you'd want to hire yourself. Honest, helpful, and caring. The food is authentic Kerala food, yummy and basic. Served hot and fresh. So you shouldn't expect eggs, cereals and muffins (I'd have loved local eggs though). Do remember to ask for their homegrown bananas as dessert. Variety in food is lacking, but quality isn't. Of all the rooms, we liked the mudhouse the most, because it's nestled far away from other rooms. Treehouse was nice but it actually swayed and animals could be heard real close, scaring the willies out of us. A good one night adventure though. This place in Idukki is located in Ramakkalmedu, known as the cradle of winds. With its numerous windmills, virgin forests, and amazing nearby treks (see my photos to see what all is a spitting distance away). We highly recommended you to trek up to the great rock, see the windmills and statue. The trek to the rock actually takes you from the state of Kerala to the state of Tamil Nadu. Salaams Rama is therefore beautifully well placed. Cheap and local autos are available for local travel and we bought good quality pepper and cardamom from the resort, organically grown there. Go there if you like staying really close to nature, and can sleep with a few leeches in your bathroom. In Kerala, that's par for the course. Expect basic toiletries (better take your own), very poor network connection, which is a huge boon, no TV (thank god), no phone lines to the reception and housekeeping. Rooms are pretty, and pretty basic. But nature is in its utmost abundance. It's a 4 hour drive from Kochi airport (Ola charged us 3200/- for it), and to locate this place is half the adventure done. It's truly in the back of beyond. Highly recommended for anyone to undertake this journey in the daylight. Because in the night it's spooky dark. I still can't come out of my unguided jungle walks in Ramakkalmedu, through its misty mornings and crisp evenings. Far away from the chaos of civilization.

The resort was totally disorganised, with no proper arrangements for food, and amenities. The place was excellent but managed improperly
