The Elgin Mount Pandim - Heritage Resort & Spa

This is a heritage property in all senses of the term. Its location on the top of a hill in splendid isolation, next to the very hoary Pemayangtse Monastery, the old photographs on the walls, the furniture in the lounge, the liveried staff welcoming you with some fiery Cherry Brandy—everything attested to its erstwhile royal connections oozing out of its every pore. But the best thing is the sight of the mighty Kanchenjunga from your bed. We could catch it in all its glory on the second morning of our stay at around 5 am. We were so excited that we ran outside in our pyjamas and found half the The Elgin Mount Pandim - Heritage Resort & Spa’s population joining us in our quest to photograph the best angle. The sight lasted till around 7 am, till the clouds rose to obstruct that view. And then, we had a repeat performance on the next three mornings that we spent in Pelling. This was something we missed so sorely in Darjeeling for all the four days that we spent there in a so-called superior Kanchenjunga view room! The buffet spread for breakfast was adequate. You have two kinds of cereals (but no muesli), some guava and pomegranate juice, some fruits like bananas, oranges, and apples, a cake, choice of eggs, coffee/tea, and an excellent spread of Indian dishes. I had idlis one day, and Poori-sabzi on the other. We could also taste masala omelettes, aloo parathas, chhole-bhatures, and samosas for the four breakfasts that we had at the Elgin, Pelling. There were also some baked beans and fries for the spice-challenged. But no cheese or cold cuts corner, possibly because of supply constraints in these challenging times, as the affable Mr. Surojit Mukherjee, the GM, explained. Dinner buffet was okay, but quite spicy. So, where I need to commend the F&B staff was when they went beyond their menus to serve us dishes that had NIL red/green chillies for my son. So, he had Chicken Sweet-and-Sour one evening and Garlic Chicken on the other. There were no continental dishes, however. The property has no air-conditioning. In fact, the rooms didn’t even have ceiling fans. When the heat bothered us, the staff put in a pedestal fan and helped us open the windows to let in some cool air. But that also let in all kinds of bugs! We know you can’t retrofit a central HVAC system on such a heritage property, but we wish the management considers installing modern inverter hot-and-cold split ACs in every room, in phases, to help better the property’s comfort levels. They also need to do something about their power back-up arrangements, which is all-manual. The result was that once when we had a power outage at 3 am; the staff took two hours to wake up and switch on the generators. An automatic switch-over system could have ensured better satisfaction for everyone. So, if you are going to stay in Pelling, as the base camp for your trips to Ravangla, Namchi, Rimbi/Kanchenjunga falls, the wish-fulfilling Khecheopalri Lake etc., just check-out Elgin Mount Pandim. The nearest restaurants will be some 15 minutes away by car, but the scenery all-around will compensate you adequately for that ‘deprivation’. And just to put things in perspective, no The Elgin Mount Pandim - Heritage Resort & Spa in Pelling has HVAC electricity back-up or probably even ceiling fans!

We stayed only a day, but it was a very fulfilling stay. Pros: 1. Location! - right at the base of Pema Yangtse monastery and walking distance from the rabdentsr ruins - both lovely (but steep) walks. Garden-facing rooms have stellar views of the mountains (apparently even kanchendzongpa, which we were unlucky to not sight. 2. Vibes - very cute and cozy common areas - small common lobby, front lawn, and outdoor dining area. We spent most of our time there. 3. Staff - including the staff at the front desk, the staff in the restaurant, the cleaning staff, the guards were all very warm and courteous, ever smiling and ready to help. Special shout out to the manager and the ldy at the reception, who accommodated our request for a room change, despite being a very busy period for the The Elgin Mount Pandim - Heritage Resort & Spa and did their best to make us comfortable. 4. Koko and kara - the two show white samoyeds, koko and kara were the stars of the show. Extremely cute and friendly and ever greedy for some petting. Kara is the introvert and koko the extrovert, even steals kara's food and rubs. But watching them prance around the lawns is such a treat! 5. Mr. Basudev, the bartender was more than willing to serve me my evening hot chocolate with brandy, which was not even in their bar menu. Cons: 1. Limited availability of rooms at all times of the year 2. The food spread in the buffets and the options for ordering ala carte are fairly limited. 3. The food itself caters more to a north indian gujarati palate. Would have preferred for it to serve local delicacies as well.

The property is beautifully located in pelling close to pemyangtse monastery! it’s a lavish property with great landsacape. The property has colonial charm with great furnishing & upholstery. As we went at the start of monsoon, it was all through misty & foggy with drizzles which robbed us of the kanchenjunga vista from out cottage balcony and The Elgin Mount Pandim - Heritage Resort & Spa garden. But indeed it made the stay ethereal in such weather with the feeling of staying in clouds. Few point in which they should improve is as the cottage is almost 100 m down from main lobby they could have kept a golf cart for ferrying as it became difficult in rains to reach the dining area every time. Also saw the waitress bringing food tray unprotected from drizzle to someone who had ordered room service! felt they are slightly understaffed. The restaurant team should have been more warm towards the guests as we fleet they were going through the chores. It goes a long way if the kids are asked for something special or to their taste from kitchen. The food spread was overall good as we had breakfast & dinner buffet. Besides they should have a travel/tourist desk to guide through sightseeing arrangements. On being asked, a local operator number was provided to help oneself. Overall it was short ok stay.

Whatever I write will be less than what I have experienced. Best will be less to say. This The Elgin Mount Pandim - Heritage Resort & Spa is better than best. I booked through MMT and my experience is as follows. 1. Rooms have excellent superb awesome beautiful view. 2. The lounge bar is a place to drool. I mean Sikkim has already cheap alcohol. And here you can Get JW Red label, black label as cheap as 600 bucks. 3.Food is also very good. Pelling being above 6000 Ft and very remote place from nearest city. The options that Elgin provides for food are more than enough. Hats off to the kitchen and restaurant staff to keep our tummy full with very good food even at such a remote place. 4. Cleanliness at its top. In this COVID19 situation. Everything is at the top of class from bed, rooms, toilets, restaurant, lounge everything. very neat and clean. 5. The icing on top is that if you are fan of walking and trekking with your loved ones. This is place you should stay. You and walk and then trek to Rabdentse Ruins and Bird Park. 6. If you are dog and pet lover. There is a awesome surprise waiting ,when you get there. Stayed for 4 days. Pros :- * Great view of Kanchenjunga from all rooms (depends on cloud cover and luck). * Beautiful property (ex-Royal Guest House). * Spacious lounge with plush seating to lose yourself in a book or newspaper with a fireplace to keep you warm. * Good food, they will even pack your food if you are leaving early or out for sightseeing. * Managed by a very friendly couple. Make sure you meet them. * Rooms are cosy, warm and have enough privacy/soundproofing. * A small but nice garden outside. * You get to meet a large Samayo dog (all furry, white and of Russian descent) by the name of Mickey. He loves being fondled. * Prompt laundry service. Cons :- * Hot water, some rooms (104 for instance) do not give you more than quarter bucket of hot water. Make sure you check the hot water once you move and get the room changed if two persons can't take a hot shower one after another. They have a separate geyser for each bathroom. Summary : You can really lay back and enjoy yourself in this comfortable place. Just pick a good room with hot water though.

The chef Mr. Basudev takes personal interest in your taste and ensures you had a great meal. If you stay here you would find every penny worth spending. Only regret is Makemytrip bookings are treated differently. Hence avoid that. Rest all is fine.

As expected, the The Elgin Mount Pandim - Heritage Resort & Spa stands out with its hospitality and decor. The USP of the The Elgin Mount Pandim - Heritage Resort & Spa is the view of Kanchenjunga range from the suites. The staffs are very cordial and reachable. The The Elgin Mount Pandim - Heritage Resort & Spa also has spa facility, a multi cuisine restaurant, billiards pool and a well maintained lawn. The The Elgin Mount Pandim - Heritage Resort & Spa does not have any travel desk. Local travel agency has to be contacted for reaching the The Elgin Mount Pandim - Heritage Resort & Spa or for sight seeing.

Elgin at mount pan-dim has very little wrong to nitpick. The property transports you to a colonial style mansion, every detail vividly maintained with the luxuries of the modern day. The views from kanchenjunga from the room is to die for. The food is amazing, albeit the menu being limited, but that can be forgiven by the amazing presentation and service. The staff is extremely friendly and helpful and leaves no stone unturned to cater to your needs. And then comes the best part about this property- two very fluffy samoyed dogs near the childrens park (outside the property premises though. The dogs just stole our heart and i hope they're here to stay. Book this The Elgin Mount Pandim - Heritage Resort & Spa without any hesitation- and get the suite room please.

This has to be one of the best places in india to stay and relax watching some of worlds highest peaks play peek a boo in front of your eyes. Great food, cozy lounge, and royal rooms just add the cherry on top.

The The Elgin Mount Pandim - Heritage Resort & Spa is small and that's what makes it wonderful. Great service, friendly cheerful staff and ever happy to serve makes it a great place to relax. Then there is the stunning view of Himalayas and Kanchenjunga. We were lucky to see the beautiful mountains daily in the morning during our stay. Food is nice and well served but given the size of the The Elgin Mount Pandim - Heritage Resort & Spa the variety is a bit less. That is compensated very well by the quality of the service. Well done to all the staff.

This property was so beautiful, calming, green and clean with a staff of people always offering smiles. They have The two most adorable dogs at The property who were such a delight. The best part was obviously The view! And The room we stayed in was supremely comfortable. The best property in and Around Pelling.

This is my second visit with my family. The service is excellent. The location is good and perfect. Though there are some problem due to water leakage, still everything is being managed in a nice professional way. The decor, food and the ambience is excellent and we love it. I would suggest everybody to have this experience in Sikkim. I liked the way the food is being served during lunch. Would appreciate if a sauna / spa facility can be thought off by management. I missed the afternoon tea this time and the facility should not be discontinued.

The Resort is constructed at an excellent location with a breathtaking view of Mt Kanchanjunga. The rooms are quite cleaned and well maintained. The Staff is very helpful and food very good. Would recommend this The Elgin Mount Pandim - Heritage Resort & Spa if you are staying in pelling.
