Windamere is a colonial styled Hotel overlooking the mountains. Service people were really courteous and friendly making it more homely. Strictly for those who like British Era colonial styled, fire & chimney in room and more of woody furniture's, this is the place !

Nostalgic and cozy atmosphere

While it was raining in Darjeeling I enjoyed the warm comfort and coziness of my room at Windamere.Even enjoyed a warm bath in an old deep tub. The candle lit dinner in the old dining room but even alone I appreciated the well cooked lamb roast with mint sauce ( though the mint sauce could be improved). The full English breakfast with porridge, fruit, eggs, toasts and good Darjeeling tea kept me going the whole day!

Terrible Stay

Our stay at the Windamere Hotel Darjeeling was not good at all. Nothing at the property worked for us. Our room was facing the open air amphitheater on the mall road, where a local fair was being organized, for 2 full nights the workers were constructions a stages counters , shops all through the night. We coukd not get any sleep because of the banging, we requested for a room change which was not accommodated Overall the staff was Kurt, uninterested and lacked empathy. They didnt care less if you were having a bad time, not a single staff or manager approached us in 2 days to even check as to how we were. On the 2nd day the hotel was hosting a function for a High court judge, the entire staff was only and only interested in serving them, we were treated like 2nd class guests, as if we were staying for free. Overall apathetic experience, cold staff and uninterested management. I would never recomend this Windamere hotel to anyone

property is beautiful, surrounding landscape is mesmerizing surrounded by mountains on all sides. From one side of the periphery one can see the darjeeling mal. A Mahakal temple is a two minutes walk from the hotel. Downwards is the observatory area where the stunning view of sunrise and Mt Kanchenjangha will give you an awesome experience. Close by is the Raj Bhavan. This Windamere hotel is set in the heart of Darjeeling

Windamere is a colonial property, made long back, located in prime location but Kanchenjunga isn't visible. Ventilation is a major issue in the end September as it's quite hot. You can't open the window as monkeys enter in the room and almost snatched the mobile. Excellent hospitality and food. I think it will be better, if they put on the window grill to protect from the monkey. Visit in the winter should be ideal as there's no fan in the room.
