About Bahrain Air

Bahrain Air was a privately owned national carrier based at the Bahrain International Airport. Set up in July 2007, Bahrain Air initially operated alongside the state-owned pan-Gulf airlines Gulf Air to meet the increasing need of low cost carrier among Indian population living in Gulf region. However, in February 2008, Bahrain Air commenced its operations as a separate entity offering about 110 flights across 17 destinations worldwide. Major regions served by Bahrain Air flights included Africa, South Asia and the Middle East. The second flag bearer of Bahrain, after Gulf Air, Bahrain Air was replete with a modern fleet of aircrafts comprising Airbus 319s and Airbus A320-200s. The two types of aircrafts had the capacity to accommodate 126 and 162 passengers respectively across their Economy and Premium class services. For the entertainment of its passengers, the airlines offered an in-flight magazine called Reesha. Other on-board services offered by Bahrain Air included meals and refreshments. The airlines also had a frequent flyer programme called Loyalty Rewards Program that offered several benefits to the members of Bahrain Air. Headquartered at Mohamed Centre in Muharraq, this low cost Bahrain-based airline declared bankruptcy in February 2013 due to financial and political difficulties.

Bahrain Air is one of the few airlines that have a short history of less than a decade. The airline was established in 2007 and started operations on 1st February 2008. Its first flight took off from Bahrain for Dubai on 3rd February 2008. It was one of the flag bearers of Bahrain, the other being Gulf Air. Initially set up as low cost airline, it soon adopted the full service operational model in 2010. Bahrain Air offered regular flights on 17 routes. In the year 2011, the bad phase of the airline started as it was asked to suspend its operations during the State of National Emergency. The lack of traffic to and from the country, and the Saudi Causeway restriction were other factors that resulted in financial loss. Eventually, the political unrest and financial burden compelled the airlines to file for voluntary liquidation and permanently suspend services, effective February 2013.
