About Cathay Pacific

Cathay Pacific is international flag carrier of Hong Kong with head office and main hub situated at Hong Kong International Airport. It was founded in year 1946 by American Roy C. Farrell and Australian Sydney H. de Kantzow. This airline has registered office at 33rd floor of One Pacific Place. It has made the world's first non-stop transpolar flight flying over the North Polein July 1998, and it also operated the maiden flight to arrive at the new Hong Kong International Airport. Both domestic and international flights are operated by this airline company. Both cargo and passengers flights are operated by it to 168 destination in 42 countries in all over the world. The aircrafts are consisted of Airbus A330, Airbus A340, Boeing 747 as well as Boeing 777 equipment. Its subsidiary airline operates to 36 destinations in Asia Pacific region from its Hong Kong base. In year 2010 this airline and its subsidiary carried 27 million passengers and 1.8 million tons of cargo and mail.

Cathay Pacific Airways also have code share agreement with various airlines companies which are Emirates Airlines, Air Arabia, Austrian Airlines, Biman Bangladesh, British Airways, China Southern Airlines, Kuwait Airways, Lufthansa Airlines, Mahan Airways, and Libyan Airlines. Various flights to India are also operated by it. The main flights to Indian cities are as follows: Flights to Kochi, Flights to Kolkata, Flights to Pune, and Flights to Trivandrum

On September 24, 1946, two ex-air force pilots Roy Farrell (America) and Sydney de Kantzow (Australia) established Cathay Pacific in Hong Kong. On the inaugural voyage of Cathay Pacific, both Farrell and Kantzow flew from Hong Kong to Manila followed by Shanghai. At the initial stage Cathay Pacific offered its scheduled service from Hong Kong to Bankok, Singapore and Manila only. In addition to these, Cathay Pacific began its limited service from Hong Kong to Canton, Sydney, Shanghai and Singapore. In 1948 Cathay Pacific sold it 45% stake to Butterfield & Swine (now called Swire Group). The new company started its operations on July 1, 1948 and became Cathay Pacific (1948) Ltd on October 18, 1948. Further Swire acquire 52% of the company and even today the same company own 40% of Cathay Pacific Airways through Swire Pacific Ltd. With the passing time Cathay Pacific Airways had seen frequent expansions and made a place among the world's leading airlines.
