About Singapore Airlines

Singapore Airlines is a major air carrier in Asia. Founded in the year 1947, it has been running very successfully and making travel a pleasant experience for its passengers. It has more than 150 aircrafts operating to more than 60 destinations the world over, while maintaining a 5-star ranking. Singapore Airlines is also the first airline to operate the Airbus A380 to the Heathrow Airport in London. Commercial flights are operated by it from Singapore to California, Los Angeles and New Jersey. It has also a plan to include some newer destinations, which include Hong Kong, Beijing, Melbourne and Los Angeles. In the Southern Asian region, it has a strong presence and is one of the major airline companies. It has a subsidiary airline, SilkAir, which connects more international destinations in the Southern Asian region.

SriLankan Airlines was a Government of Sri Lanka undertaking, which commenced in July 1979 following the shut down of Air Ceylon in the year, 1978. Initially, it operated two Boeing 707 jets, taken on lease from Singapore Airlines. As the airline added new destinations on its itinerary, it made additions to its fleet. By 1990, SriLankan Airlines was flying to 26 destinations. In December 1992, the airline purchased Airbus A320, its first airplane. Srilankan Airline's agreement with Emirates Airlines made it a part-privatized entity and all rights to aircraft ground handling, airline catering, and investment & management decisions were handed over to Emirates Airlines. 1998, the name Air Lanka was dropped and SriLankan Airlines came into being.

Singapore Airlines’ Economy Class seats are designed to give passengers more personal space even if the seat in front is reclined. If anyone wants more legroom, he/she can choose the extra legroom seats with wider seat pitch, located near the exits. The airline also gives passengers the choice to opt for forward zone seats, located closer to the doors.
Singapore Airlines also makes sure that in-flight meals are prepared to suit passengers’ needs. Whether for religious, dietary or allergy reasons, or simply for a teething toddler, all that a passenger needs to do is make a request from the list of Special Meals.
The ‘Book the Cook’ service is also offered in Suites, First Class and Business Class, and for all meal services except for Continental Breakfast and Refreshments. Passengers can choose from a wide selection of meals, including creations inspired by an International Culinary Panel, up to 24 hours before their flight. 'Book the Cook' choice will then be served as the main course of their inflight menu.
Singapore Airlines also keeps passengers connected to the ground even while they are 30,000 feet up in the air. The convenience of inflight connectivity is offered on their Airbus A350, A380, Boeing 777-300ER and 787-10 aircrafts. Passengers can also watch movies and play games for their entertainment.
