Air Mauritius was established in 1967 and it is a national carrier with its base in Sir Seewoosagur Ramgoolam International Airport serving the capital city of Mauritius, Port Louis. This airline carries about 1.6 million passengers annually and has played a major part in the tourism sector economy in the country. It has also helped in the growth of its national economy by employing over 3000 employees and has been a Public Listed Company on the Stock Exchange of Mauritius. Air Mauritius has a rating of four-stars from SKYTRAX due to its impeccable on board and ground services. It was the first airline in the Southern Hemisphere to fly the Airbus 340 during the nineties and by 2017, became the fourth largest carrier in Sub-Saharan Africa.

Web check-in and verification

The web check-in service of Air Mauritius allows the passenger to check-in to his/her without standing in long queues at the airports.
Passengers can check-in online within 30 hours to 2 hours prior to the departure of flights by simply visiting http://m.airmauritius.com/mobilecheckin.htm and filling in the booking reference number, surname and flight number. However, boarding passes will not be provided to passengers boarding from Mumbai, Kuala Lumpur, Singapore and Shanghai through web/mobile check-in. They can be obtained from the check-in counters.
Passengers are required to have their e-tickets for Air Mauritius flights to check-in online. A group of 9 passengers with the same booking file and reference number are allowed to check-in online. Passengers with infants below 2 years of age who did not request for a cot, or, passengers above 2 years old can check-in online. Passengers who require special assistance such as wheelchairs cannot check-in online.
Passengers departing from Mumbai can check-in within 30 hours to 4 hours prior to the departure of flight.


Baggage Allowance


The baggage allowance for adults and children above 2 years of age depends on the origin and the destination. Passengers flying from Asia to Europe through Paris are freely allowed to carry one baggage piece weighing 23 kg in the economy class cabin and two pieces of baggage, each weighing 32 kg, in the business class cabin. Passengers travelling from Asia to Europe via London, Indian Ocean Islands, Africa, Asia or Oceania are allowed to carry one piece of baggage weighing 30 kg in the economy class cabin and two pieces of baggage, each weighing 32 kg, if travelling in the business class cabin. Infants can also carry one baggage piece weighing 23 kg, except for infants flying to and from Mauritius and island of Rodrigues, who can carry one baggage piece weighing 5 kg. Students travelling with Student fares can carry an additional baggage piece not weighing above 20 kg. Any baggage piece should not exceed the dimensions of 158 cm in length, width and height.

Passport and Visa Information

To travel from Mauritius, passengers must have passports valid for at least 6 months after their return date. To travel to Mauritius, passengers are required to have passports that are valid more than the planned period of stay in the country.


Indian nationals arriving in Mauritius are eligible for a 60-day visa if they have their accommodation booked and confirmed. They are also required to have a sponsorship letter, confirmed return flight booking and adequate expenses to about 100 USD per day. If passengers have their tickets booked beyond 60 days, they are required to apply for a visa from the Mauritius High Commission in New Delhi.
Visas are exempted for Indian and Chinese passengers travelling to the Rodrigues island for a stay of 15 days. If the stay exceeds 15 days, passengers are required to apply for a visa from the French embassy.


In-flight Services

While aboard Air Mauritius, passengers are provided separate headsets and screens in both the business and economy class cabins. Passengers can enjoy the extensive list of Hollywood and Bollywood blockbusters and children’s movies on board. The Audio and Video on Demand (AVOD) is an interactive system in some of the Airbus aircraft where one can find the latest movie releases as well the classic ones. Passengers on the Airbus 350 aircraft can access complimentary Wi-Fi.
