British Midland International Airlines continued growing in 1980s and in 1982, it formed its headquarters at Castle Donington, close to East Midlands Airport. In 1986, it changed its name to British Midland. BMI offered a separate Business Class cabin, exclusive for business travellers in 1993, and became the first European carrier to do so. It joined Star Alliance on July 1st, 2000.
