Most of the shares of Garuda Indonesia Airlines are owned by the government of Indonesia. The first aircraft was DC-3 and was bought for a sum of 120,000 Malayan dollars. In the 1960s the airline grew significantly, and the fleet in 1960 comprised of 8 Convair 240s, 8 Convair 440s, and 8 Convair 340s. In 1970 to 1980, the airline introduced new airlines in its fleet, such as Fokker F28 and McDonnell Douglas DC-9 jets.
