SAUDIA, also known as Saudi Arabian Airlines started out in 1945 with a single twin-engine gifted to King Abdul Aziz by US President Franklin D. Roosevelt. This was followed months later with the purchase of two more aircrafts, and these formed the nucleus of what in a few years was to become one of the world's largest airlines. SAUDIA is the national flag carrier of Saudi Arabia and its main operational base is situated at the King Abdulaziz International Airport (JED). The airline also has other hubs, which are the Riyadh-King Khalid International Airport (RUH) and the Dammam-King Fahd International Airport (DMM). It is a member of the Arab Air Carriers Organization and the SkyTeam. SAUDIA has also won various awards in the aviation industry such as the Silver MENA Travel, the Yahoo Middle East Online Award for best regional online marketing, the Quality Cube Award from Lufthansa, the Silver Plate from Royal Brunei Airlines for On-Time Performance and Diamond Award from On Board Services Magazine, among others.
