Sohag, the ancient city in Egypt is also known as Sawhāj, Suhag and Suhaj and is situated on the western bank of the
Nile river. Since 1960, the city has been the capital of the Sohag Governorate and is also included in Esna Governorate
(nowadays Qena Governorate). The city is situated in upper Egypt and is at a distance of approximately 470km from the
capital city of Cairo. Sohag shares its borders with Assyut from the north, Red Sea from the west and Qena from the
