This airline carries about 1.6 million passengers annually and has played a major part in the tourism sector economy in the country. It has also helped in the growth of its national economy by employing over 3000 employees and has been a Public Listed Company on the Stock Exchange of Mauritius. Air Mauritius has a rating of four-stars from SKYTRAX due to its impeccable on board and ground services. It was the first airline in the Southern Hemisphere to fly the Airbus 340 during the nineties and by 2017, became the fourth largest carrier in Sub-Saharan Africa.
