The Tungabhadra Dam, located near the town of Hospet in Karnataka, is a multi-purpose dam serving irrigation, electricity generation, and flood control. Built across the Tungabhadra River, a tributary of the mighty Krishna River, the dam is a significant part of the region's landscape and economy. The dam's 33 spillway gates and 50 crest gates are a sight to behold, especially when water is released. The dam also houses a powerhouse with five generators, each with a capacity of 9 MW.
