Want To Go ?

Goa is a place known for its vibrant culture, open-minded people, and amazing lifestyle which has given it its customary ‘party destination’ tag. But did you know that it could be a great place for family vacations too? Yes, you read that right! Here are 5 reasons why Goa is perfect for a family vacation destination:

1. Spending quality time at the beach:

The best part of Goa is, of course, its umpteen beaches! Splash around in the water, help your kids build sandcastles, or play a game of Frisbee with the family. Beaches like Anjuna and Palolem are more suited for partying and browsing the local flea markets.  For a quieter time, head to beaches like Ashwem and Morjim, which are great places for kids to rent a surf board for INR 200 an hour. Don’t miss out on other water activities like paragliding or sailing too!

2. Go dolphin watching with family:

Wow the kids as you take them for an amazing boat trip to watch dolphins frolic and play around in the sea. For assured dolphin sighting, hop on for a trip on ‘John’s Boat tours’. The travel company does a 4-5 hour trip from 8:15 am every Tuesdays, Thursdays, Saturdays and Sundays with the philosophy of ‘No dolphin, No pay’. This experience will be far better than any discovery channel video you have ever seen!

3. Spend a day at a wildlife sanctuary:

Apart from being the city with the loveliest churches, Goa also has some of the most beautiful wildlife sanctuaries which are a must-see when visiting Goa with children. Take the kids on a ferry ride to watch several species of beautiful birds at Salim Ali Bird Sanctuary located on western tip of the Island of Chorao along the river Mandovi.  Another attractive option for both school kids and nature lovers is the Bondla wildlife sanctuary with its mini zoo, sprawling deer park in natural habitat and its botanical and rose gardens.

4. Take a trip to Dudhsagar Falls:

Children will be overjoyed to see the Dudhsagar waterfall as it descends the high peaks of the Western Ghats. It is a sight to behold especially in the monsoons when it is in the full and furious glory. Kids also have an interesting opportunity to feed macaques (local monkeys) with their hands.

5. Explore an old fort:

Forts like Tiracol and Chapora are fun trips and full of interesting stories. Chapora fort is a major attraction for its history - It was built by the Portuguese in 1617 for the defense of their territories from the Marathas. Tiracol lies on the northern edge of Goa bordering Maharashtra and is known as a heritage fort overlooking the Arabian Sea, hence you’ll have to take a free ferry to get there. It’s one hell of an experience!
