Adrenaline-pumping adventure awaits you on the Indonesian island of Bali. Go all out beyond the culture and cuisine for some hair-raising thrills. Here are the top adventurous experiences in Bali that come with the promise of unmatched excitement.

1. Surfing

From April to October, Bali sees an influx of surfers from near and far who come to ride the spectacular waves. Areas like Canggu, Nusa Lembongan and Bingin are considered to be some of the best surf spots across the world. Whether you’re a nervous beginner or a seasoned professional, the breaks and swells in Bali are a great place to ride the waves. Surf’s up!

2. White Water Rafting

Thrills and hopefully not too many spills make for an adventurous white water rafting experience in Bali. The most popular river is the Ayung River, which has a 10-kilometre stretch of Class 2 and 3 rapids, along with 360-views of picturesque scenery. The 16-kilometre stretch of Telaga Waja River with its Class 2 to 4 rapids makes for a longer white water rafting run.

3. Volcano Trekking

Most people will tell you that a volcano is not something you want to be near at, let alone trek! The adventurous, however, will prove you wrong. Bali’s sacred Mount Batur is an active volcano that draws enthusiasts in large numbers literally at the crack of dawn. A two-hour long trek takes you to the summit from where the views of the sunrise are pure magic. While Mount Batur is an easy treks Mount Agung—Bali’s highest point—and Mount Rinjani in Lombok pose bigger challenges with steep inclines.

Next time someone tells you to go jump off a cliff, make sure you’re in Bali because you can actually do it here! Not for the faint hearted or inexperienced, Cliff jumping is fast becoming one of the top extreme adventure activities in Bali. Nusa Ceningan’s cliffs reaching up to 13 metres at Blue Lagoon and Mahana Point are only for those who really want to live on the edge. Those less adventurous can jump off the Bali coastal cliff in Jimbaran Bay that stands at a height of five metres.

5. Scuba Diving

The waters of Bali have long been one of the best locations for scuba diving. Diving centres can be found all over, with most of them accredited by PADI (Professional Association of Diving Instructors). Gear up and jump in to explore all that lies beneath the water’s surface. Even if it’s your first time, you’ll be accompanied by an experienced instructor, so you have all the time to marvel at the colourful varieties of fish, coral reefs and marine vegetation.  Some popular scuba diving spots are Tulamben, Padang Bai and Sanur.

6. Countryside Cycling

Countryside Cycling is a great way to explore the natural beauty of Bali beyond its beaches. Embark on a journey that takes you to the interiors where rice fields and bamboo forests make for a pretty picture. Ride through local villages, stop at historic temples and interact with locals who are more than likely to invite you to their homes for a refreshing beverage or meal.
