You can now visit Shakespeare’s birthplace in China! Incredible, isn’t it? As per the latest news, China is now building a replica of Shakespeare’s hometown, Stratford-upon-Avon. For literature lovers in this part of the world, it is delightful to have our own little part of Shakespeare closer to home.
William Shakespeare’s legacy lives on after centuries, and Stratford-upon-Avon is like a pilgrimage for lovers of Shakespearean literature, with millions of visitor’s making a bee-line for the town every year. Fuzhou city in China, six hours south of Shanghai, took a cue from this crazy fan-following and are building “Little Stratford” to commemorate 400 year since the passing of the famous playwright.
At Little Stratford, you will get a complete experience of the original British town, and be charmed by its little Tudor Streets and the River Avon flowing through. Famous landmarks like the Royal Shakespeare Theatre, The Holy Trinity Church, and the 16th Century house where Shakespeare was born will all be recreated. Excited much? There’s more!
In addition to the replica of Shakespeare’s hometown, Fuzhou will also recreate the Miguel de Cervantes, Alcalá de Henares in Spain, and Chinese author Tang Xianzu’s home, to celebrate their 400th death anniversary as well.
Good going China! Are you looking forward to this unique town?
