1. Desert National Park – 10.7 km

The park provides an excellent opportunity to witness the fragile ecosystem of the Thar desert. Abundant in local (all year long) & migratory birds (from November to January), the park is spotted with several small lakes visited by Chinkaras, Forest Foxes, Bengal Foxes, desert cats.

The conservatory along with its flora & fauna also houses a collection of 180-million-year-old fossils, what a sight for the sore eyes!

2. Lodhruva – 8.5 km

A 20 minutes’ drive from Jaisalmer can land you at the famous ruins of Lodhruva, the ancient capital of Bhatti dynasty. Built in 9th century AD, it has been grazed & re-raised several times thereafter.

The once flourishing capital still showcases a beautiful Jain temple complex with ingenious architecture & intricate jaali work dedicated to the 23rd Tirthankar Parsvanath. The Kalpataru in the temple complex & peacocks dancing amid the city ruins are a major crowd puller.

3. Kuldhara – 26.9 km

Another abandoned site around Jaisalmer is Kuldhara which was once a prosperous village and has a reputation of being haunted. Established in the 13th century for reasons not yet discovered, it was abandoned by the early 19th century. However, the cluster of well-preserved buildings & lore’s from neighbouring villages still keeps the legend alive & captivating.

4. Bada Bagh – 12.3 km

A cluster of cenotaphs (chhatri) built to honour the late Bhatti rulers, once overlooked a mango grove & royal water tank. This brilliance of architecture rising out of the dunes along with the meticulously engraved walls changing colours according to the time of the day is sure to take your breath away.

The best part? The locals still perform rituals on the site to venerate their ancestors.
