The idea of chilling by the seaside sounds irresistible, but spotting a dolphin whooshing out of water in its splendid glory can indeed take your breath away. In case you didn’t know, the River Dolphin – one of the four species of freshwater dolphins in the world – got declared as India’s National Aquatic Animal in 2009.  If you have been yearning to come face-to-face with these majestic creatures, here’s our list of the best dolphin spotting destinations in India.

2. Lakshdweep

The destination is breathtaking in itself, and equally thrilling is the fun of watching dolphins flying out of the sea here. Agatti Island is the most popular place for spotting dolphins in Lakshdweep, and the mesmerizing islands in the region will leave you asking for more. Hire a boat and head into the ocean –you might get lucky spotting them at uninhabited islands nearby such as Kadmath and Bangaram. The best way to explore Bangaram Island is to stay at the Agatti Island and explore this coral reef on a day trip.

Traveller tip: As special permits are required to enter the island, make sure that you double check your bookings and arrangements beforehand.

3. Andaman & Nicobar
