India’s buffet of festivals across the year is well known to the world at large. This February, however, let’s step away from the mainstays of the Indian calendar and dig up some events that are sure to bring the dazzling diversity and chaos of India to your itinerary.

Here are the 5 events that you cannot afford to miss this February:

1. Kala Ghoda Festival, Mumbai

The ultimate celebration of a city that’s as diverse as they come, the Kala Ghoda Festival pays quirky homage to everything the city is best known for: from street food to art exhibitions, theatre, dance and heritage walks to boot. Held in the Kala Ghoda Arts Precinct, make sure you find your feet here if you’re in Mumbai in February. Best part: entry is free. Oh, and it also makes for an awesome Valentine’s Day date.

Where: Kala Ghoda Arts Precinct, Fort, Mumbai

When: 3 – 11 Feb 2018

2. Ragasthan, Rajasthan

In the month of February, the sand dunes of Khuri, Rajasthan, come alive with the rhythms of folk, rock and fusion music – as Indians and foreigners head for one of the most exciting music festivals to be held in the subcontinent. This is one of the most popular music festivals to grace Indian lands, so make sure you don’t miss this. After all, listening to your favourite bands amidst the sultry dunes of Khuri is a different high altogether.

Where: Khuri Sand Dunes, Rajasthan

When: 23rd to 25th February 2018

3. Taj Mahotsav

A tribute to the arts, crafts and culture of the Mughal era, the Taj Mahotsav starts off on a spectacular note with processions of elephants, drummers and camels – reminiscent of the Mughal empire at its zenith. This year’s theme is Hum Ek, Sanskriti Anek, where over 400 artisans across the country will get an opportunity to showcase their talents. The venue is also evocative of Mughal times, since it is located at the place where the artisans and builders who constructed the Taj Mahal once lived. With the stunning Taj Mahal as a backdrop for this fifteen-day event, there’s not much more you could ask for in terms of grandeur.

Where: Agra, Uttar Pradesh

When: February 18-27, 2018
