Jewellery has enchanted men and women since time immemorial – as status symbols, as spiritual symbols or just for their real and perceived intrinsic value. From the earliest shell jewellery to today’s platinum and even steel jewellery or just plain old gold, jewellery has always held our fascination. Wars have been fought over prized jewels; scandals have sprung from famous pieces of jewellery and today, a gigantic industry has been built just on these mesmerising (and often mercilessly expensive) baubles. Designers, manufacturers and buyers wait for elaborate jewellery fairs and exhibitions and come back richer with new styles and fads.

They say ‘jewellery takes people’s minds off your wrinkles’. Sounds like a good enough reason for me to visit Hong Kong this March and scan the latest in jewellery design at Asia’s Fashion Jewellery & Accessories Fair. My Hong Kong trip will also include some dead serious splurging and sightseeing, but let me first tell you all about the fair:

The Fair

Asia’s Fashion Jewellery & Accessories Fair has been successfully taking place in Hong Kong for the last 6 years and is a grand affair. The event has an avant-garde element as nearly all big label jewellery designers showcase their latest collections, while buyers select the next Autumn/Winter season’s items from here. The fair is a comprehensive exposition of jewellery styles and will feature everything from bead and glass jewellery to silver, titanium and even plastic jewellery. In the fashion accessories’ category, you can expect to see new twists on eyewear, watches, handbags and wallets as well as belts, headwear, neckwear and the new age – fashion mobile phone accessories. While at the fair, make sure to visit the distinctly themed arenas like ‘Sense Zone’ and ‘Fashion Accessories Zone’.

The Venue

For an event of such enormity, only a world class venue with ample space and facilities would do and the AsiaWorld-Expo with more than 70,000 square meters of space  is just the place for it. The venue that opened in 2005 will host the Asia Fashion Jewellery & Accessories Fair from March 4-7, 2013 in its several ergonomically designed halls.

The AsiaWorld-Expo is located near the Hong Kong International Airport and can be easily accessed by the Airport Express trains, cab or bus. Be sure to show your event passes at the station for a hefty discount!

There are several good hotels around the venue to choose from: HK SkyCity Marriott Hotel, Regal Airport Hotel, Novotel CityGate Hong Kong and Panda Hotel. If you are a food lover, Hong Kong has some great restaurants where you can find everything from fine dining options to cheap eateries, all located close to the venue. Before you venture out to explore the myriad options, try the Arena Kitchen, IKON Sea View restaurant and the DimSum Bar – all at the convention centre itself.

You trip to Hong Kong would be incomplete if you didn’t visit some of the great attractions in close proximity to the venue – Hong Kong Disneyland, Giant Buddha at Lantau Island, SkyPlaza at the Airport and Ngong Ping 360 cable car.

Jewellery, accessories, great food and big networking opportunities – this is what you should expect from your Hong Kong trip.

Now that you know what’s in store, book your trip to Asia’s world city and choose from a number of convenient flights, hotels and packages only at MakeMyTrip.
