LUXURY GETAWAYS
For the well-connected and the well-traveled, Hotel Pullman in New Delhi, Aerocity is probably just another hotel. But for me, a step into the 100th Pullman was like experiencing another world. Across the globe, Pullman has been frequented by celebrities, the rich and the famous. And accessibility to an iconic brand in India’s capital was perhaps another charm that drew me to this place.
When I visited, I thought I would see another typical hotel lobby. No. The lobby was brightly lit, with bay windows letting in natural light. The best part was the 6,000 hanging lights that actually look like a peacock with its feathers spread wide and dancing around in the rain. The lamps in the lobby are another interesting feature with a very eastern lounge touch and lighting. And the blue upholstery of the sofa provides the much-needed calm.
As you enter, on your right is the lux-lounge Pling. It has the best selection of wines, the signature ‘Vinoteca by Pullman’ concept and sofas that you just sink into for days and exactly what you need after that long flight or a long, hard day’s work.
Even more attractive is the European fine-dining restaurant Pluck. I simply loved the décor with its Victorian feel. The food is fresh and healthy and the portions pretty good. The hotel has its own herb garden, so digging into the greens is a must here. And if you are there on Sunday, then missing the brunch is a sin.
The USP of Pluck and Pling is their cutlery. The angular glasses are pretty striking, even for the non-discerning. The cutlery at Pluck comes from Guy Degrenne whose roots go to 1948 when its founder, Guy Degrenne, gave a second life to armour-plating of tanks left over from the battle of Normandy in 1944. The recycled steel was used to produce the first matrices for stainless steel cutlery, an innovation in itself.
For tea drinkers, there’s the tea wall, Tea Deli, right at the entrance of Pluck.
If you are a lover of Asian street food cuisine, Honk is the place to enjoy it. Don’t want to sit inside on a beautiful day? If you feel like looking at the stars, visit the open courtyard and during winter, this is the perfect place to sit and enjoy the sun.
The rooms are, of course, pure luxury. With wide working desks, beautiful bathtubs, and a Bose sound link in every room- It felt like the perfect haven where I could have just stayed and done all my work in peace.
If you do get time, then it’s best to burn some calories at the gym or in the swimming pool after gorging on so much delicious food. And if you don’t feel like doing anything, then step into the luxurious Woo Wellness Spa and let a full body massage take away all your stress.
