HILL STATIONS
Our 18th anniversary was around the corner and the prospect of our annual ritual dinner seemed to be a boring option because our kids were out camping, and what fun would it be without them. So, it was under these circumstances that I spotted this couple-package by MakeMyTrip, where one could have lunch by the waterfall and dinner under the vast gaze of the beautiful shiny stars in Manali. Did this not happen only in fairy tales? I wondered. Yet I decided to check it out. And boy, was I glad I did!
When I signed up for the package, I was told that a driver would pick us up. However, I was actually not prepared for the experience. Both my husband and I are quite used to driving, so we had forgotten what it was like to have someone drive us down, and believe me, it was sheer pleasure. Our driver drove meticulously over the winding roads, occasionally stopping to let us click pictures against the backdrop of the picturesque Kullu Valley and Pandoh Dam. We reached Manali in the evening, welcoming the wintry chill. After a quiet and cosy dinner at Mall Road, it was time to hit the bed.
The next day, we had the first half to ourselves. So, we quickly visited the Hidimba Temple and Tibetan monasteries and returned to the hotel, from where we were picked up and ferried to the Jana Waterfalls. Hidden away in the hilly terrain, the sight of the water unexpectedly rushing from a cluster of rocks overlooking a wooden bridge took our breath away. Sounds of the water, accompanied with the chirping of the birds and insects transported us to an ethereal world. And then I spotted the table, neatly readied for us. We sat there, sipped on the wine and soaked in the ambience. A while later, we were served delicious, lip-smacking food cooked to perfection. The afternoon wore on as we both walked down the memory lane. What an experience it was!
On the day of our anniversary, we headed for the Solang Valley to try our hands at skiing, para gliding and zorbing. I couldn’t remember the last time we had so much fun! As evening set in, we knew it would be special and we took the trouble to dressed up a little. A cab picked us up and we headed for the Larisa Resort, where we were welcomed and ushered to our table at a secluded spot in the orchards. The entire area was lit up by thousands of beautiful fairy lights and lanterns. It indeed seemed like a fairy tale, where we toasted over champagne and dined under the starry sky, with Beethoven serenading us.
This turned out to be one of the most memorable holidays that we both had had in many years. While family get-togethers have their own charm, some time alone for couple works wonders to rekindle relationships. And that’s the experience and realization this MakeMyTrip package was able to give us.
