As you stand at the periphery of Jebel Fihrayn, eyes gazing at the sprawling horizon, you can see the snowy sky melt into the barren Earth, exuding many emotions that could never reach the tip of the tongue. All the tardy emotions, worn-out thoughts, released in one quick breath! Yes, that’s Jebel Fihrayn for you!

Too poetic? Well, that’s just how it is! A visit to the Edge of the World is nothing short of breathtaking! Think it’s an exaggeration? Well, you got to see it to believe it! Here’s why the Edge of the World or Jebel Fihrayn needs to be on your travel list.

1. Discover the Meaning of ‘the Edge of the World’

One of the most popular tourist attractions, the Edge of the World, earned its nickname from the rolling views of the skyline that brilliantly blends into the far away dunes along with the sight of dried-up rivers, weaving across the craggy realm. One may even spot camels treading the ancient caravan route that once cut through these grounds. You stand tall at a height of 300 metres on an escarpment, and you get your Edge of the World!

2. The History of This Marvel Will Leave You in Sheer Awe!

A portion of the Tuwaiq range, the sky-rocketing cliffs are a result of the tectonic movement of the Arabian Plate, which moved toward the northeastern direction. The movement was caused by the rift of the Red Sea when it moved nearly 1000 km west of the Tuwaiq range. The cut that was carved reveals the many layers of sediments that accumulated when the Arabian Peninsula’s eastern portion was a shallow sea during the Jurassic era, almost 150 million years ago! Today you can see the remains of fossils as relics of when this area was a part of the ocean bed! Capture the pictures of these artefacts and let your mind race to the possibility of what was as you revel through countless timelines, collecting all that there is today of this rustic corner of the world.

3. Hiking is Good for Health!

While it takes 90 minutes to reach Jebel Fihrayn from the capital city Riyadh, it’s a good idea to hike your way to the top. It’s a different experience to make your way through the rugged terrain filled with steep climbers and sharp rocks! You must ensure that you are wearing good quality, sturdy hiking shoes. The entire hike could take a few hours as you make your way through curvy winding trails. Hiking to the top and feasting your eyes on the gorgeous views spell a different kind of happiness!

4. Sunsets and Rains!

If you visit during the rainy season that spans from November to April, you will be lucky to witness the lush greenery in the valley of Sha’ib Kharmah that falls in the way of Jebel Fihrayn. This beautiful valley runs from the west, almost 15 km till it reaches the feet of the colossal cliffs that take you to the Edge of the World. Halt here to rest, soak in the vistas or simply do a picnic with loved ones! As you reach the peak, we recommend staying back to see the crimson coloured sunset looking extraordinary from the height. It’s capable of making you feel one with the cosmos!

You must be convinced by now that Jebel Fihrayn or the Edge of the World deserves a special place in your travel bucket list of Saudi Arabia.
