ROMANTIC
Are wedding bells around the corner for you? What better choice than the all-time favourite with Indian honeymooners - Thailand? If you’re not in the mood for the hustle bustle of Bangkok and are looking for some sabai (tranquillity and happiness in Thai), head to Koh Samui – a gorgeous island in the Gulf of Thailand where dazzling sunshine, sandy beaches, luxurious resorts and of course, full moon parties are the order of the day. Here's your quick Koh Samui honeymoon guide so you don't have to fret over every little travel detail before your special day.
There is plenty to see in Koh Samui. Hop on-board a songthaew (a modified truck with benches) and go to the northernmost tip of the island to visit Wat Phra Yai or the Big Buddha Temple. The gold-plated imposing statue of the Buddha is a sight to behold. On Sunday evenings the nearby beach is buzzing with activity for the Secret Garden Festival, which has a delicious barbecue served to the tune of charming local musicians. The most popular beaches on the island are Chaweng and Lamai – while Chaweng is quite the party beach, Lamai is more laid back, so choose what suits you best. You can also head to the Ladd Koh viewpoint, which gives sweeping views of the Chaweng beach.
If you want to get away from the crowds, hire a car and visit the village of Choeng Mon, which has deserted beaches, a magnificent bay and an island nearby that you can paddle out to. On the south coast of Koh Samui are the fascinating rock formations of Hin Ta and Hin Yai also known as Grandpa and Grandma rocks. Another site worth visiting is that of the twin Na Muang Waterfalls, especially because the walking trail leading to it passes through the verdant surroundings of Na Muang Safari Park. The falls form a natural pool which is perfect for a romantic swim with your partner.

One of the major attractions of Koh Samui is the Ang Thong National Marine Park. An archipelago of 42 islands with stunning limestone formations, tropical rainforests, hidden coves and miles of beaches; you can reach it by a speedboat in just 45 minutes. Go snorkelling, scuba diving or kayaking or if you’re up for some adventure, try the steep hike up Koh Wua Ta Lab Island from where you’ll get some gorgeous views. Be warned though that this hike is not for beginners! There are beautiful caves to explore on the island and several island tours worth taking.
For a spot of shopping, head to Nathon Town in Koh Samui where you’ll find great bargains on clothes, silk goods and shoes. You can also pick up some quirky souvenirs from the markets here.
Koh Samui’s neighbouring island Koh Phangan is undoubtedly the party capital of Thailand. The full moon parties on the beach are world famous and it’s certainly one of the most exciting things to do while honeymooning in Koh Samui. You’ll find yourself rubbing shoulders with people from all over the world dancing to rocking psychedelic music. Hat Rin’s Full Moon Party is held every month and is one swinging event lasting through the night. Hit one of the clubs with your partner, dance the night away and then check out the beach shacks for some much-needed rest and refreshments (ahem!). The beach has some more action including fire-eaters, jugglers and firework displays.

There are many restaurants all over the island where you can get a taste of the delicately balanced Thai cuisine. Try the award-winning Zazen Restaurant in Bo Phut, which serves traditional Thai dishes as well as international cuisine with beach-facing ambiance or head to Chaweng Beach for a romantic meal under the stars! Several stand-alone restaurants offer this option – you can lounge around on mats and cushions, amidst flaming torches and taste some authentic Thai food.
Koh Samui has some of the most luxurious resorts in Thailand. Get pampered at the spa, indulge in gourmet dining and experience exciting nightlife - all at one location. Check out Q Signature Samui at the serene Choeng Mon beach. The resort has several plush villas with private pools. Though it’s a bit far from the shopping areas, the hotel has a convenient mini-bus service at your disposal. The Anantara Resort & Spa at Bo Phut beach is another great option. It’s a short walk from Fisherman’s Village near the Big Buddha Temple and has beautiful grounds and well-appointed suites.
