Want To Go ?

I was craving to escape monotony and soak in some unconventional thrill. And there can be no better place in the country than the magical northeast to experience all of that and more! Thus, I packed my bags, and head out… Read on to know more about the amazing places I covered...

Dzukou Valley

DZUKOU-VALLEY

Sandwiched between the border of northern Manipur and southern Nagaland, lies the stunning Dzukou valley. No trip to Nagaland is complete without visiting this trekkers’ paradise. There’s no one perfect time to visit this valley, as it is as mesmerising during monsoons as in winters. I had already been there twice before and still couldn’t wait to go back again.

Mechuka (or Menchuka), Arunachal Pradesh

MECHUKA

Mechuka has to be the most romantic destination in Arunachal Pradesh! It takes two days to reach here from the mainland; there is no network connectivity and the roads are honestly terrible. But, some destinations are worth the pain and Mechuka is definitely more than worth it. This photo was taken from atop Mechuka la which gives you a 360-degree view of the whole of Mechuka.

Walong, Arunachal Pradesh

WALONG

Walong is the easternmost town in mainland India. This is the place where the Indian army crushed the Chinese in the heroic Battle of Walong,1962.

Ahead of Walong is Dong, Kaho and Kibithu. Dong is the place that receives the first sunlight in the country, Kaho is the last village on the eastern boundary of our country with China, and the river Lohit enters India from China via Kibithu. The pic is taken at the War memorial of the Battle of Walon,1962.

Mawlyngbna, Meghalaya

MAWLYNGBNA

Mawlyngbna is fast becoming the new adventure destination of Meghalaya. It is famous for its rich fossils and natural hot springs.  But, what is not known to everyone is that this place has a lot of adventurous activities in store too, like trekking, cycling, zip lining, kayaking and more.

Pengshohrew Falls, Meghalaya

PENGSHOHREW-FALL

Pengshohrew Falls is located at Shilliang Jashar,Meghalaya. It is also known as the ‘Rainbow Falls’ because once the sunlight falls at a particular angle, it creates the illusion of a rainbow through the mist of this fall, he and it is a sight to see! While the wait is worth it, you can make it more worthwhile by swimming in the crystal clear water here.

Urkyrming Falls,Meghalaya

URKYRMING-FALLS

Further ahead of Pengshohrew Fall is the Urkyrming Fall. I am an amateur trekker and it took me a total of 9 hours to cover both these waterfalls. And let me warn you, there is no predetermined trail and you have to cut through thick vegetations while making your own path.  But then, going off road has always been my calling!

Vertical Root Bridge,Shiliang Jashar (Meghalaya)

V8ERTICAL-ROOT-BRIDGE

I am sure the first thing that comes to your mind when you think of Meghalaya is the Double Decker Root Bridge. But have you ever heard of the Vertical root bridge?

Basar, Arunachal Pradesh

BASAR

Basar ,the abode of the Galo tribe is located in the Lepa Rada district of Arunachal Pradesh. Presently only famous for the Basar Confluence, which is an authentic tribal festival celebrating Galo culture, this place also offers ample natural and unexplored beauty in the form of caves, waterfalls and more.

Longlangba, Longkhum Village,Nagaland

LONGKHUM

Longlangba or the Stone Bridge at Longhkhum Village is home to the Ao lovebirds – Ediben and Jina, Nagaland’s very own Romeo and Juliet. Guarded by Rhododendron trees on either side, this stone bridge also bears the marks of spears which used to be warning signs of ancient warriors.  The legend goes that the first time you visit Longkhum, your soul stays back as your body returns back home. So here I am already planning another visit to this place in a bid to retrieve my soul again.
