Our Fun Girls’ Trip to Bhutan!

My friends and I chose Bhutan for our holiday as we were looking for a destination that was not too crowded, easy on the pocket and satisfied our cravings for beautiful landscapes. After the trip, I realized that Bhutan is the best destination I have ever been to, a place truly close to nature. The road trip started from Bagdogra and on the way, we encountered stunning waterfalls, magnificent mountains and astonishing views- all this added to our already brimming excitement!  

While travelling to Thimpu, we had an amazing experience of drinking holy water directly from a waterfall! Another thing we loved about the country were the clean and well-maintained roads as well as a disciplined traffic even without any traffic lights. Our hotel in Thimpu was next to a river so we could listen to its flow while enjoying a cup of coffee- how serene!

Apart from things that take you closer to nature, Bhutan is also beautiful in terms of architecture; all the houses are symmetric and similar- what a sight! People of Bhutan love their culture; youngsters can mostly be seen wearing their traditional clothes. We could not resist getting ourselves clicked in their old-style outfits.

My favourite attraction in Bhutan was the gigantic Buddha Dordenma; you can check it out anytime of the day and it is visible from the whole of Thimphu. Then our guide took us to Simply Bhutan Museum that resembles a Bhutanese village, the tour started with some local rice wine and included a display of how the locals used to build houses, etc. We also got to sample delicious traditional food and watched a folk dance performance. In the museum, a sacred pond is there where you throw coins to get your wishes answered.

Next day, on our way to Punakha, we halted at the Dochula Pass where we saw 108 picturesque stupas built by the eldest Queen Mother. We enjoyed coffee in the foggy and scenic weather before continuing the journey to Punakha; the route was so beautiful, with a river flowing along and horses running around in the grasslands. Punakha is where two rivers meet, resulting in lovely views.

Our next stop was a village in Phobjika Valley with mind-blowing sights of the gorgeous mountains. It reminded me of paintings we created in elementary school. Then we went to Paro where we trekked to the Taktsang Palphug Monastery, it was totally worth the hassle! The trek started with full enthusiasm until we started feeling exhausted but looking at the aged trekkers all around, I was motivated to keep going. On the trek, we met people from all around the world and we all felt a sense of achievement as we reached the top- it was an exhilarating experience!

Not to forget, the Bhutanese people were too kind, hospitable and welcoming!
