Surfing in Goa: Riding the Waves Gave Me the Ultimate High!

Goa will always remain close to my heart. It was the first beach vacation I took with my family, the first vacation I took with my college friends, and the first time I went out partying and experiencing the thrill of exploring the streets on bikes and stumbling back to the hotel at the break of dawn. There are too many firsts attached to this land of sun, sand and memories. While each of them hold a special place in my heart, it is the surfing experience from a couple of months ago that remains a significant one. It was the first time after graduating from school that our group of close friends got together to plan an adventure. Goa was the most convenient option, and the idea of surfing was an immediate hit with everyone involved. We booked a package at MakeMyTrip and things just fit in perfectly over our three-day long trip.

Beach Bumming!

We flew down to Goa, and took a taxi from the airport to our hotel on Anjuna Beach. It took us almost 2 hours to get there due to the long weekend rush, so we decided to take it slow and relax by the beach. The afternoon and evening were spent at the shacks, drinking beer and enjoying butter garlic prawns and calamari fry. Since it’s a rocky beach we decided not to go into the waters.

The Thrill of Surfing

We headed out to the waters early the next morning, and spent all day learning how to surf. The wind in our hair, the sun shining brightly in the blue skies, blue water all around and your closest friends with you—it was indeed a memory of a lifetime. Surfing cannot be learnt in a day, but it was great fun learning the techniques and attempting to ride the waves. We fell, we swam, surfed, clicked pictures, and got back to the hotel thoroughly exhausted, with our faces beaming with excitement.

A Portuguese Meal

When in Goa, you must stop by for an authentic thali or a Portuguese meal. We opted for the latter, and headed to Café Venite. After a hearty meal, we headed to the airport.
