A Family Affair

No trip to Nainital is complete without a ride on the Aerial Express cable car up to Snow View at a dizzying height of 2,270 metres.  It is here that you can see some stunning views over the Himalayas and of course, Nanda Devi, India’s highest peak. For the animal lover in the family, there is the Govind Ballabh Pant High Altitude Zoo where you can learn about and catch a glimpse of some of the more unusual animals that prefer to live close to the clouds such as Siberian tigers, leopards and pheasants.

A popular family past time is fishing. Though you need a permit to fish in Naini Lake, you can go to other nearby pools such as Bhimtal or Naukuchia Tal. So grab yourself a rowboat and a fishing rod and sit back sharing stories with your family.

Explore Your Adventurous Side

For adrenaline seekers, Nainital is a veritable playground. If you are interested in rock climbing, speak to the Nainital Mountaineering Club who will be able to guide you, or better yet, let you join one of their expeditions.  Alternatively, explore the natural surroundings at a more leisurely pace by taking a short walk through the picturesque forests.

A great way to see the surrounding regions is on horseback. You can ride up to Snow View passing all other holidaymakers riding in the cable car on the way or go further off the beaten track. Don’t forget to take your camera along; otherwise no one will believe just how beautiful the scenery really is.

A Romantic Escape for Two

Take your loved one by the hand and spend some time alone on a rowboat on the peaceful lake. You will feel like a world away as you are surrounded by spectacular scenery. If you are feeling energetic, walk up to Dorothy’s Seat and on to Land’s End and enjoy the fresh scent of pine and oak trees.

Just before dusk, wander hand in hand down the Mall, which is in the centre of town. Later, head for a meal fit for royalty at the Palace Belvedere overlooking the romantic lake. At night, find your vantage point along the lake and watch as the lights dotted around the town twinkle magically across the hillside.

If you want to hold onto the romance just a bit longer, then don’t miss out on buying some of the decorated candles in almost any shape and colour you can imagine. Light them back home and be transported to this beautiful town instantly.
