Say ‘hola’ to the capital city of Spain! Amongst the many popular areas of this diverse country, Madrid holds a special place. This political, economic and cultural centre of Spain attracts tourists throughout the year, and makes for a fabulous solo trip or a perfect vacation with friends and family. Impressive landscapes, elegant avenues, baroque palaces, notable museums, fine food and more, there is enough and more to fall in love with!

Read on as we introduce you to the best of Madrid and tempt you into making it your next holiday destination-

City of Many Squares

A number of beautiful grand city squares form the core of this capital city. Start your tour at the Puerta del Sol, the busiest and most famous square, which forms the center and starting point for other streets, squares and important attractions.

A short walk from here, the Plaza Mayor, is the fanciest with its grand archways and impressive historical buildings. Further, the Plaza de Cibeles is sure to charm you with its fountains and marble structures. Walking is my favourite way of exploring this city of many squares.

Vibrant Touristy Feels

In addition to the bustling squares, there are must see attractions like the Royal Palace of Madrid, the Royal Theatre, the National Library Building, and the Cibeles Palace. The upscale and touristy Gran Vía and Salamanca District are your answer to the best of shopping experiences in Madrid. Need a break from sightseeing? The Buen Retiro Park, one of the premier landmarks here, is the ideal retreat for boating, picnic, or just a stroll. Madrid is as alive at night as in the day. Head to the perky tapas bars, clubs, flamenco theatres or jazz lounges, and party the night away like the Madrilenians.

A Haven for Art Lovers

Get ready to be mesmerized by one of the world’s finest and biggest collections of art! The Museo del Prado, the Reina Sofia Museum, and the Thyssen Bornemisza house works of renowned artists like Goya, Rubens, Picasso, and Míro. We suggest you keep plenty of time in hand for this remarkable compendium of artworks. Apart from premier museums and art galleries, Madrid offers the best of sculptures and street art as well. Here closed shops are a treat to the eyes for their vibrantly painted shop shutters and garage doors. As you go about exploring the city, impressive sculptures and statues will greet you at many of the streets, avenues, and intersections.

Foodies Paradise

Legendary restaurants, food festivals, traditional roasts, and signature dishes, Madrid has it all! The two essentially traditional dishes of Madrid, cocido and calamari sandwich, are a must try in their many variations. Head to the ever-buzzing Spanish bars, or to the popular market Mercado de San Miguel for Spanish appetizers or tapas. Also, while in Madrid, do try the famous Botin restaurant, the oldest restaurant in the world as per the Guinness Book of World Records, and savour churros with hot chocolate at the legendary Chocolateria San Gines.

Football Madness
