A beautiful hill station in the Shevaroy Hill range, Yercaud makes for a convenient and peaceful weekend getaway from Bengaluru. Covering a distance of about 215 kilometres from Bengaluru, the road to Yercaud is a truly beautiful one which goes through winding lanes amidst hills. To reach Yercaud, you can opt for a bus from Bengaluru to Salem and from Salem, you can hire a hatchback at less than Rs. 500. The drive is known to have close to 20 hairpin bends, which make it all the more fascinating.

  1. Drive through the hills: The best way to soak in the serenity of Yercaud is to visit the 32-kilometre loop road which offers an excellent drive amidst the tall trees and coffee plantations. As it is dark (with no street lights in most places) after 6:00 p.m., the roads seems to be very spooky and offer an adventure unlike any other place!
  1. School tours: Move around a little bit and visit some of the most popular schools in the country, dating back to the British era.  There is a mini zoo inside the school open for visitors only on Sundays.

Chilling in the hills: If you wish to have a few drinks with your friends, make sure you carry them with you as you might not be able to find your preferred brands in the few local wine shops here. Alternatively, you can try Hotel GRT, Sterling, Lake Forest or Grand Palace for a chilled out evening.
