Adilabad
Home to a multicultural society, Adilabad has three wildlife sanctuaries, two waterfalls and a lake to offer – so yes, there’s plenty of adventure to be had here. Whether it’s stalking the perimeter of the Mavala Lake or taking a jungle walk through the Shivaram Wildlife Sanctuary, or having a natural bath at the Pochera Falls, there’s definitely a lot in store for the traveller who finds his feet to Adilabad.
How to Get There: Take the NH 44 to cover the 300 kms that get you to Adilabad. The journey should take you about 4 hours.

Belum Caves
At a length of more than three kilometres, Belum Caves are the longest caves in India which – let’s be honest – is enough of a reason to warrant a visit. Add to that its long chambers and some truly spectacular sights within, and you have an adventurous weekend getaway staring you right in the face. From fascinating stalactite and stalagmite formations to a small stream called Patalaganga that accompanies you throughout your passage, Belum Caves have it all. Do not forget to visit the section that was used by Buddhist monks as a meditation hall, or the giant Buddha statue on a hillock over the cave.
How to Get There: Belum Caves are located south of Hyderabad near Kurnool, at a distance of about 318 kms.

Dandeli
Dandeli has plenty of surprises hidden up its sleeve for the adventure seeker. Those fancying themselves as explorers can venture down the thousand-odd steps towards the Kavala Caves – whose limestone deposits prove they were once inhabited by humans. River rafting is another adrenaline-filled activity for those wishing to test their mettle against the River Kali. Finally, the Anshi Tiger Reserve in Dandeli is a celebrated eco-tourism spot and hosts a dizzying variety of birds and beasts – including the tiger – for the photographer in you. So get that jungle safari going!
How to Get There: Take the NH 44 to get to Dandeli from Hyderabad.

Bhongir Fort
With its distinctive egg-shaped style, the Bhongir Fort stands out in a country that has one every odd kilometre or so. Built in the 12th century by a Chalukya ruler, the Fort stands upon a huge monolithic rock and is encircled by a moat. It takes an hour-long trek up steep steps to reach the top of the Fort so make sure you stock up on water. There’s even a rock climbing school near the Fort, so if you want to learn how to climb like a pro, there’s a place where you can do so.
How to Get There: Take the NH 163 from Hyderabad to reach Bhongir Fort. The journey should take you approximately an hour.

Koilkonda Fort
Located in the Mahabubnagar district of Telangana, Koilkonda Fort and Koilsagar Dam are two major attractions in the area. A tough forward outpost belonging to the Qutb Shahi Dynasty during the mid-16th century, Koilkonda Fort is notable for its deep gorges and the seven great gates that need to be crossed to reach its interiors. The Koilsagar Dam which is built upon the Peddavagu River makes for quite a scenic sight, surrounded by high hills on all sides. Three kilometres away from the Fort is the Ramakonda Hill, which can only be reached via foot. So get your trekking shoes with you, because this destination demands a fair amount of walking.
How to Get There: Take the NH 44 to get to Koilkonda Fort and Koilsagar Dam from Hyderabad. The journey should take you about 2.5 hours.
