The Goddess here is known as Tenkali, the village goddess, and is called Chengalamma by her devotees. It shares a border with the Bay of Bengal and is divided from it by the barrier island of Sriharikota, where ISRO conducts satellite launches. Many migrating water birds stop by the lake's shallow waters between November and February, including flamingos, pelicans, kingfishers, storks, ducks, and curlews.
