Emerald green plantations spread across acres and acres of land, frothy waterfalls, and exotic wildlife - Coorg is a retreat that every nature lover turns to for rejuvenating the mind, body and soul. I had visited Coorg many times before, but this time I wanted a weekend getaway with a touch of extraordinary.

A Heart-warming Dinner in the Wilderness

With our fifth anniversary coming up, I was looking for a quiet getaway with my husband to break free from the humdrum of Bangalore’s hectic lifestyle. And this mini vacay in Coorg turned out to be exactly that. On the day of our anniversary, we embarked on a nature trail traversing through a lush jungle, taking our time to soak up the mesmerizing views of gushing waterfalls, glittering rivers, tribal settlements, and grassy green meadows.

Spotting the local camp after a long and tiring walk was a delight unto itself. A crackling bonfire stood ready to welcome us, and its warmth was just what we needed after the hike. The highlight of the day, however, was the delicious dinner comprising some lip-smacking authentic Coorgi preparations. We devoured the meal by the bonfire, enjoying our time together, away from everything else. The entire experience was quiet and low-key, and extremely romantic—so much so that it would go down in our list of favourite experiences as a couple.

Sightseeing in and around Coorg

We had headed out with a laidback holiday on our mind, but the raw beauty of this land pulled us out of our comfort zones. We spent our time visiting the Abbey Falls and Raja’s Seat, a popular sunset viewing point complete with a seasonal garden of flowers and artificial fountains. We even took a jeep safari ride through the coffee plantations and thick woods, and followed it up with a trek to the popular Mandalpatti Viewpoint, which is yet another scenic setting with a gushing waterfall running through the hills. My husband’s favourite was the Dubare Elephant Camp on banks of the river Kaveri, where we bathed and fed the elephants.

The three-days in Coorg whizzed past way sooner than we’d have liked, and we set out for our return journey to Bangalore, with a promise to come back again. A huge thanks to MakeMyTrip for making this occasion so special for us, with this wonderful experiential package.
