One summer we decided to escape the torturous heat of Delhi.
Our first destination from Delhi was Sadhupul, a small village in Himachal Pradesh on the way from Kandaghat to Chail. River Ashwini enhances the beauty of this hamlet and many visit to enjoy meals while feet dipped in the shallow river.
By evening, we reached HPTDC Chail Palace Hotel. The place was loaded with monkeys! Please be cautious. The narrow path towards their deluxe log hut that was deeper into the jungle was risky! Although, the name was deluxe, the huts were quite basic. The night was bitter cold.
Chail does not have many options for sightseeing. The palace is its most popular attraction with paintings and royal furniture.
Kali Ka Tibba is a small hilltop temple dedicated to Kaali Maa. It is made of white marble and known for spectacular views. If you are someone who loves the sounds of nature, then this is the place for you.
On our way to Shimla, we enjoyed some lip-smacking home-style food at the humble Sharma Bhojnalaya near the main market area. In addition, Himalayan Nature Park is a nice attraction you can visit while driving towards Shimla. The small zoo also includes a museum.
We stayed at Kapil Hotel in Shimla, the rooms were nice and the views of the valley were beautiful. After a few hours of rest, we headed to Mall Road for a stroll.
School kids, youths, honeymooners, older couples and others- every kind of people flooded the road. The atmosphere oozed out enjoyment. Tourists can indulge in horse riding, watch plays, traditional dances or gorge on “momos”, desi snacks and a variety of shakes and juices.
If you are interested in theatre and art, then Gaiety Heritage Cultural Complex on the Mall should be on your list of must-visit attractions in Shimla.
Shimla has a number of attractions such as the Jakhoo temple, Tara Devi Temple, Kali Bari Temple and Toy Train. Unfortunately, we did not have time for everything. And that’s how the trip came to an end.
