Salt Of The Earth

The beautiful sunset at the Rann of Kutch

As we started our morning under the scorching heat characteristic in the month of May, the Great Rann of Kutch was both awe-inspiring and merciless! But our tryst with the safed rann of the Thar Desert wasn’t over as we came back at sunset to witness the resplendence of the largest salt desert in the world under an almost full moon night.

The Black Mountain

A wild jackal having his meal prepared by the priest

Kalo Dungar, the highest point in the Kutch district, caught our attention after we heard of a unique tradition carried out at the Dattatreyi Temple. The priest here prepares a meal for the jackals and rings a bell at noon. Lo and behold! The creatures of the wild actually come for the meal.

That Girl From Hodko

Isn't this embroided piece of cloth pretty?

The sleepy village of Hodko is inhabited by a remarkable group of young women. Beautiful, hard-working and camera-shy, they spend most of their days making embroidered clothes to eventually go as part of their wedding trousseau.

Stay tuned as the adventure continues on our next destination...
