Thrill seekers, listen up! If you’re bored of routine, then it’s time to holiday a little differently. Try something fun and dare devilish on these adventure weekend getaways from Mumbai. The adrenaline rush surely won’t disappoint you!

1. Matheran

The small and quaint hill station of Matheran is a one of its kind at an elevation of 2,625 feet above sea level. With a no automobiles policy, Matheran is an eco-sensitive zone. There’s plenty to experience here with the absolute must-do being a ride on the Neral-Matheran toy train. Trek up to Matheran’s vantage points like Panorama Point, Heart Point and Echo Point or go horse riding amidst the greenery. Most importantly, don’t forget to take deep breaths in Matheran – your lungs will thank you!

2. Durshet

Set against the Sahyadri range, Durshet lies along the Amba River. Its dense forest foliage makes it great for trekking, kayaking and birdwatching. Several hotels and lodges in Durshet offer private safaris in to the forest cover as well.  After all the adventure, relax in the rich sulphur Uddhar hot water springs, located a kilometre from the famous Pali Ganesha Temple near Durshet.

3. Lonavala

​Lonavala is one of the most popular hill stations to visit from Mumbai. With a smattering of history to be found in the ancient Buddhist shrines carved out of rock at the Karla and Bhaja Caves, adventure seekers can head to Della Adventure, India’s largest extreme adventure park. Adrenaline pumping activities here include a 100-foot high swoop swing, the Flying Fox, paintball, ATV biking, dirt bike riding, buggy riding and zorbing, to name an exhausting few!

4. Kolad

There’s no greater thrill than the rush of whitewater rafting. The village of Kolad on the banks of Kundalika River is where some of the best Grade 1 to 3 rapids are to be found. So much so that it ranks among the top five places to go rafting at in India. Rafting season starts from June to September so plan your adventure weekend getaway to Kolad accordingly.

5. Karjat

Karjat offers adventurers plenty to choose from. A popular destination for outdoor enthusiasts, enjoy trekking, river rafting, hiking and waterfall rappelling. Other fun adventures that can be had are river tubing on the Ulhas River and going boating on the Morbe Dam. Karjat is also historical and has old temples, caves and forts that are great to explore.

6. Kamshet

Take to the skies in Kamshet! This small hamlet with its rugged hills and lush greenery is a renowned paragliding destination. Get a bird’s eye view of the stunning topography as you glide over Pawna Lake. If paragliding is too much adventure for you to handle, trek up Tower Hill and Bhandar Dongar. You can also visit the Kondeshwar Temple and Bhairi Caves while in Kamshet.

7. Kashid

Water babies, this one’s for you! This sleepy beach town boasts of white sands and swaying palms. Watersports are aplenty from parasailing to paddling. Private operators also offer fun banana boat rides and jet skiing. Kashid is a great camping ground as well. Wildlife enthusiasts can trek to Phansad Wildlife Sanctuary where plenty of flora and fauna is to be spotted.

8. Malshej Ghat

A mountain pass in the Western Ghats, Malshej Ghat offers views that abound in stunning beauty. While trekking and exploring the valley’s waterfalls are great adventure activity, for ore of a rush, go paragliding. Malshej Ghat is blessed with rich avian life and pink flamingoes descend here between July and September, creating a striking spectacle to feast your eyes on.

9. Bhandardara

Bhandardara
enjoys plenty of natural beauty in the form of mountains and waterfalls. Enjoy your time outdoors by going on treks and hikes to Mount Kalsubai, the highest peak in the Sahyadri range. Also visit Bhandardara Lake, Randha Falls, Wilson Dam and Arthur Lake. Give cycling and angling also a go at Bhandardara.

10. Diveagar

​Create your own adventure at Divegar beach. Relatively unexplored, this fishing settlement along the Arabian Sea is a great swimming destination. Those who like to trek can venture towards Madagad where the views of the Bankot and Murud creeks en route are rather spectacular. The small village of Devkhol near Diveagar is popular for birdwatching.
