Aiguèze

Aiguèze ranks high on the list of most beautiful villages in France. Dating back to medieval times, its location on a cliff overlooking the gorges of Ardeche and Ventoux offers spectacular views. Aiguèze has a 14th century fort along with a Renaissance church, which is considered historic site by the French Ministry of Culture. The village plays host to markets and festivals in the summer that include the Flower Market, Bread Festival and Provencal Market, which sees Aiguèze come alive with concerts in the church

Bargème

bargeme

A commune in the Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur region, Bargème stands at an altitude of 1,097 metres on a rocky ridge. Relatively untouched, this medieval village has quaint narrow streets that lead to the main sights of the village, a Romanesque St. Nicolas church and the ruins of the feudal Sabran-de-Pontevès castle. Every August, Bargème has a Baroque music festival that sees lovers of music and history flock here.

Les Baux-de-Provence

baux-de-province

Located between Arles and St Remy-de-Provence, Les Baux-de-Provence attracts visitors to its rocky expanse in the foothills of the Alpilles all through the year. Famous sights in the village are two olive oil mills, a medieval fort and church. With cobblestone streets, the village today has several tourist facilities including restaurants and souvenir shops. Yet, Les Baux-de-Provence has retained its rustic charm.

Ménerbes

menerbes

Clad in stone, Ménerbes is a walled village on a hilltop in the foothills of the French Alps. Ménerbes is deep-rooted in history and culture as is evident by the churches and abbeys and forts and castles. The main town square has a 17th century belfry and bell tower. Ménerbes remains a large centre for the arts and famous names like Picasso once had a house here. Ménerbes has also attracted Hollywood with the Russel Crowe starrer A Good Year being filmed in the region.

Roussillon

rousillon

Cloaked in red by way of rocks, stone buildings and tile roofs, Roussillon is striking village that sees heavy tourist traffic. While hues of red appear on the inside, its location on in a green pine forest on bright red-ocre hills makes it all the more picturesque. Roussillon has modern day cafes and restaurants and historic sites like a village square, 19th-century clock and bell tower and ancient sundials. Famous novelist and playwright Samuel Beckett was once a resident of Roussillon.

In addition to the appeal of the cultural and countryside, a South of France village tour lets you enjoy experiences like interacting with locals and dining on the delicious cuisine of the region, which makes it all the more attractive.
